Class hours vary, 2-3 evening weekdays and 1 weekend day.
Our CICs must have successfully completed a NYS sanctioned CIC course, the internship requirement, and successfully passed the NYS BEMS CIC written certification exam. Applicant’s CIC certification must be current and they must maintain currency throughout employment.
CICs oversee and administrate all academic activities associated with their course, responsible for the academic integrity of a specific EMS course.
Candidates must have strong communication, organization, interpersonal, and problem-solving stills.
Must be knowledgeable in many aspects of prehospital care.
An aptitude to teach and mentor students is a must.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Provide EMS course instruction and clinical supervision for the students in the EMS Programs offered through SUNY Sullivan in accordance with NYS DOH EMS Policies, Laws and Regulations, for the purpose of eligibility for NYS Certification.
- Ensure all learning and skill objectives are taught and met.
- Monitor students’ progress, provide support, and facilitate remediation as needed.
- Supervise and train CLIs and Lab Instructors to ensure effective delivery of the program curriculum.
- Assist in recruitment and hiring of CLIs and Lab Instructors, create work schedule, and approve hours worked by staff.
- Development curriculum, course syllabus, document and report attendance, conduct regular student assessments, maintain and submit accurate student and course-related paperwork and data needed for college purposes, and maintain and submit grade reports. To be done in a timely fashion.
- Set up and utilize computer-based instruction and evaluation tools (homework, quizzes, exams).
- Prepare the interim exams with the review of the Course Medical Director.
- Secure preceptors for students’ clinical experience, coordinate and maintain appropriate records.
- Act as a liaison between students, the course sponsor, the local medical community and NYS-Bureau of EMS.
- Coordinate and work cooperatively with SUNY Sullivan’s EMS course administration.
- Maintain necessary equipment and supplies inventory.
- Maintain current knowledge and best practices in the Emergency Medical Services field.
- Build relationships through community outreach to promote the program and increase enrollment.
- Maintain classroom environment to maximize student learning. Maintain professional standards at all times
- CICs report directly to the EMS Course Administrator.
