Responsibilities:
Position Overview:Delta State University, a regional comprehensive university serving the Mississippi Delta and beyond, is searching for the next director of the Gertrude C. Ford Center for Teaching and Learning. The Ford Center, a key resource in developing and sustaining excellence within the community of 154 full-time and 127 part-time faculty, seeks an entrepreneurial leader who is committed to affecting success within the highly diverse student community by strengthening the members of the Delta State academy. With a total student enrollment of approximately 2,400 students, the Director will have the opportunity to interact with, and mentor students within the University. The Director is a full-time, 12-month position funded through an endowment from the Gertrude C. Ford Foundation. The Director serves as a valued member of Academic Council, the Academic Affairs governing body within the University shared governance structure, reports directly to the Provost/Vice President for Academic Affairs, and is supported by an advisory committee.
Responsibilities:
- Bridges the needs of faculty in their quest to improve learning outcomes for Delta State students and develops and delivers programs in support of teaching excellence, while serving as a guide in the ever-changing landscape of higher education best practices;
- Works collaboratively with faculty, department chairs, staff, and administrators to increase professional development opportunities and improve teaching and leadership to increase academic student success;
- Enhances teaching through educating faculty about pedagogical research, providing tools for self-assessment, and encouraging adoption of best-practices for both in-person and online modalities;
- Leads/manages overall day-to-day functions of the Center and the Center's strategic planning efforts;
- Develops, coordinates, implements, and supervises a variety of workshops for large groups, small groups, and individual professional development opportunities for faculty;
- Establishes a centralized digital repository of teaching resources and oversees the distribution of these resources to support the development of the instructional community;
- Stays abreast of literature on teaching and learning and networks with national groups and individuals;
- Promotes a campus culture that values and recognizes the importance of teaching excellence and student learning;
- Works with various entities to identify grant opportunities and develop proposals to support endeavors of the Center; and,
- Performs additional duties as assigned related to academic success.
Qualifications:
Education/Qualifications:
- Track record of successful team building with measurable results in increasing faculty engagement, success in course delivery in both in-person and online modalities, and the capability to support Delta State’s ability to attract and retain talented faculty;
- Terminal degree in a discipline served by the University and significant experience to be considered for faculty rank within an appropriate Delta State college/school;
- Demonstrated ability to build strong relationships with Delta State colleagues across colleges/schools and to serve as a mentor to other faculty members;
- Prior experience in support of a center for faculty teaching and learning, including demonstrated expertise in curriculum development, delivery, assessment, and continuous improvement;
- Proficient in Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; with Canvas and Banner experience preferred;
- Demonstrated record of:
- Strong leadership, interpersonal and oral/written communication skills with ability to prioritize multiple tasks in a changing, evolving department;
- Integrity and commitment to developing and maintaining the highest academic standards and working with a diverse population of students, faculty and staff;
- Plan and budget time wisely, be detail-oriented and motivated to take initiative; and
Salary:
12 monthCommensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.
