Overview
The Disability Resource Center is seeking an experienced Sign Language Interpreter to fulfil the role of Lead Interpreter (Interpreter II). This position provides American Sign Language interpreting for Deaf and/or hard-of hearing students, faculty, staff, and/or visitors at USU, while also acting as a mentor for part-time interpreters. The lead interpreter is also responsible for planning and leading regular trainings for USU's other interpreters. This is a nine-month position (mid-August through mid-May).


Responsibilities
  • Provide ASL interpretation for USU sponsored classes and events.
  • Prepare for classes by reviewing course material or other relevant information.
  • Collaborate with DRC coordinator to recruit, retain, train, mentor and supervise hourly interpreters.
  • Provide ongoing mentoring and training for other USU interpreters.
  • Performs other related work as needed.


Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
  • State or National Interpreter Certification.
  • Two (2) years of directly related experience working as an ASL interpreter

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Five (5) years of directly related experience working as an ASL
  • ASL interpreting experience in a higher education setting.

  • Understanding of, and commitment to, relevant ethical codes.
  • Ability to collaborate and work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and diverse populations.

  • Excellent communications and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Basic computer skills and proficiency.
