As a member of the enrollment management leadership team, the Director of Financial Aid is responsible for the oversight and administration of all institutional, federal, state, veterans, and external financial aid funds for undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students. They will manage the day to day operations of the financial aid team, as well as, communicate regularly with the OneStop units.  They will be responsible for providing accurate and timely reporting to the Offices of Institutional Research, Finance, and Cabinet. They will ensure compliance with all federal and state regulations, including the proper handling of all student financial records, and manage the timely disbursement, reconciliation and cash flows of all aid.  They will be responsible for updating and enforcing institutional policies, and develop a comprehensive financial aid model in line with the goals and mission of Manhattanville.

Direct reports: Associate Director, Assistant Director, and Financial Aid Counselors

Essential Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Strategic plan for developing financial aid resources as an additional tool for recruiting and retaining students at Manhattanville.
  • Identify and implement processes that will streamline the financial aid workflow and provide superior customer service to students and families.
  • Develop a comprehensive communication strategy for incoming, current, and returning student populations; including a financial literacy program for current and graduating students.
  • Ensure accurate and up to date information is available through the use of brochures, literature, workshops, website, ServiceHub, and social media directed toward students and parents.
  • Develop a robust email and social media campaign to keep students aware of upcoming deadlines; including presenting at schools, running FAFSA workshops, and fairs.
  • Oversight of the Federal Verification process and procedures, Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP), Return of Title IV funds, and NYS TAP, ETA, and WTC Certification process.
  • Overall management of institutional merit, opportunity, and need-based aid programs.
  • Partner with the division of advancement to automate and refine the process for endowed scholarships.
  • Submit various required Federal, State and Institutional Reports including FISAP, Common Data Set, NYSED, IPEDS, NCAA DIII Annual Report, and more.
  • Maintain a close working relationship between the Registrar, Student Accounts, Controller, Student Affairs, and Admissions offices to develop the institutional aid budget and monitor the tuition discount rate.
  • Manage the disbursement/transmittal of all funds to COD, Student Accounts, ELMOne, HESC, and VAOnce.
  • Participate in regular training and professional associations to keep abreast of new information from the Department of Education and New York State in order to properly manage and implement the required changes in a collaborative and student focused manner.
  • Direct supervision of professional staff (4-5) including the development of a comprehensive training plan for direct reports and the OneStop team.
  • Provide professional development opportunities for financial aid staff to specialize and cross train.
  • Participate in internal committees, working groups, and strategic plan initiatives, as needed.

Core Competencies/Skills: 

  • Strong knowledge of Federal and New York State Financial Aid policies, team management, and best practices
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office Suite; Adobe Acrobat
  • Strong work ethic and discretion; meticulous attention to detail
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; must be a confident public speaker in front of a large, diverse, audience.
  • High degree of organizational skills, self-motivated, and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously
  • Ability to communicate with a diverse student and employee population
  • Willingness to learn new skills; ability to become expert with Ellucian Colleague (student information system), Slate (CRM) and Informer (reporting tool)
  • Ability to collaborate with multiple areas
  • Availability on some weekends and evenings.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations and conversations calmly and effectively, and can step in to assist staff as-needed.
  • A demonstrated commitment to promoting a diverse and inclusive community.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of financial aid professional work experience.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Master’s Degree and experience with Ellucian Colleague and Slate
  • Strong background in DEI, particularly as it relates to the recruitment process
  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply.

  • Ability to sit for long periods of time.
  • May be required to lift boxes and files.

Salary: $110,000-$120,000/year
