Under general supervision of the senior administrative manager, pharmacist and the pharmacy extender, we are seeking aPharmacy Technicianwho will perform those clinical activities necessary for the smooth flow of patients. The role is consistent with the standards and guidelines of the American Society of Health System Pharmacists and other regulatory agencies. The technician will perform variety of duties to assist in the care and safety of the patients of the Medical Oncology suite at Green Spring Station.




Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper disposal of potentially infectious waste.
  • Troubleshoot infusion pumps.
  • Check and record for malfunctioning medical equipment, daily.
  • Participate in skill development.
  • Perform copying and faxing.
  • Function as part of the collaborative practice group.
  • Scan all outside ancillary reports into EPIC. Audit the documents to ensure proper indexing.
  • Delivers stock medications
  • Prepares medications for patients use accurately following established departmental and area procedures.
  • Documents preparation and distribution of medications in patients’ medical records, and when applicable, in research documentation.
  • Operate various machines i.e. Nucleus, computer software, etc.
  • Replenish stock medications.
  • Maintain area equipment and supplies.
  • Accurately stages medications for dose preparation.
  • Fills new drug orders prior to pharmacist final check.
  • Prepares injectable medications according to established procedures prior to pharmacist final check.
  • Prepares chemotherapeutic agents/hazardous drugs according to established procedures prior to pharmacist final check.
  • Labels container/packages prior to pharmacist verification.
  • Initials product labels according to area policy.
  • Acts as an ambassador to the pharmacy.
  • Plans daily activities with the pharmacist and lead technician according to the needs of patients.
  • Maintains clean work environment according to state regulations.
  • Adheres to Confidentiality Statement and HIPPA regulations
  • Works cooperatively within the unit and with other units and departments
  • Willingly exchanges appropriate and professional information with co-workers


Physical Demands

  • Speak in a clear, pleasant, and understandable manner via telephone and/or in person.
  • Demonstrate active listening skills.
  • Listens to co-workers and customers and responds in a courteous and tactful manner.
  • Manually operate a personal computer and use complex software to access and manually input data.
  • Lift charts, files and boxes weighing up to 40 pounds.
  • Walk and or stand up to seven hours a day.
  • Requires attention to details. Reads and understands instructions for product preparation.
  • Employee will be required to wear protective clothing or gear such as masks and gloves.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Minimum Qualifications
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Pharmacy Technician Certification.
  • Phlebotomy certification preferred.
  • Meets state licensure guidelines for continuing education credits.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience. Additional related experience may substitute for required education on the same basis.
