Job Summary

Reporting to the Dean of Learning Commons, the Director of Learning Support Services works in collaboration with the Learning Support Services staff, faculty, and stakeholders across the campus and district to lead and manage this unit. This includes the development of partnerships, programs, services, policies, budget, and assessment so that it contributes successfully to the vision and mission of the Learning Support Services unit.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Performance Requirements*
  • Plans, directs, and evaluates the operation of the campus Learning Support Services unit
  • Develops, analyzes, and coordinates departmental budget estimates and controls expenditures to administer the approved budget
  • In consultation and coordination with other campus learning and academic support personnel and administration participates in the continued planning, development, and co-creation of the Learning Support Services unit
  • Monitors, assesses and evaluates unit services and operations; makes recommendations for improvement based on the review and tracking of system and process data
  • Keeps current on changing professional practices and advancements in the Learning Support field
  • Provides creative and effective leadership in building and maintaining community relations with a broad and diverse audience including faculty, staff, students, administrators and the community to promote the Learning Support Services unit and the college, and present a positive image of the college’s academic support services
  • Communicates with the college administration on unit-specific issues
  • Develops goals and missions for the Learning Support Services unit; works with other members of the unit to meet these goals and missions
  • Maintains the Learning Support Services environments; contributes to planning for new or renovated facilities
  • Actively participates in college-wide conversation on student engagement and success
General Supervision and Management
Responsible for personnel management, evaluation, and development of assigned administrative and professional-level direct reports

Service Excellence
  • Participates on behalf of the College in external community organizations and associations
  • Attends the workplace regularly, reports to work punctually, and follows a work schedule to keep up with the demands of the worksite
  • Completes all required training and professional development sessions sponsored through the Tarrant County College ( TCC ) Institute
  • Supports the values of the College: diversity, teaching excellence, student success, innovation, and creativity and service to the College
  • Supports the mission, values and 3 goals and 8 principles of the College
Supervision
Works under periodic supervision of the Dean of Learning Commons

Required Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Six (6) years’ working experience related to the Essential Performance Requirements
  • Two (2) years’ experience supervising (e.g., managing, evaluating the performance of others; leading projects or processes)
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s degree
  • Experience as a director of Learning Support or similar role in a community college setting
  • Experience as a leader in a learning lab setting
  • Experience in the management and implementation of innovative approaches to improve services
  • Experience in effectively making decisions that have significant, broad implications on the management and operations of a department or equivalent
  • Experience in a role requiring effective dynamic and abstract problem-solving skills in adaptive situations
  • Experience working closely with student services or programs providing direct support to students
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of engagement in applying academic technologies that support the teaching and learning process in the classroom and online
  • Knowledge of culturally diverse groups, diverse learning styles, and the ability of higher education to contribute to a more just and inclusive society
  • Knowledge of leadership concepts, practices and procedures with the ability to use to motivate and inspire others in varied situations as it pertains to the departmental focus
  • Skilled with user community engagement and commitment to creative, high-quality services and facilities
  • Skilled in excellent customer service and interpersonal relationships
  • Skilled with strong organizational time and project management, while remaining results-oriented
  • Ability to view issues from a college and campus-wide perspective, foster teamwork, and stimulate cross-functional collaboration
  • Ability to foster a collegiate work environment that encourages change and innovation; and to interact effectively and work productively, collegiality, cooperatively, and collaboratively with a variety of diverse individuals and groups in a complex and rapidly changing environment while developing and sustaining productive relationships
  • Ability to obtain college-wide support for increasing student learning and student success
  • Ability to confidentially and discreetly handle matters requiring privacy and sensitivity
  • Ability to independently set goals and determine the best course of action to achieve desired results
  • Ability to analyze data and provide sound recommendations based on policy, procedure, practice, and existing regulations
  • Ability to delegate work appropriately to faculty and staff to meet College and campus deliverables
  • Ability to use computer applications and enterprise systems, including proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software
