Brief Summary of Work for this Position

The Department of Accountancy and Business Law at the University of North Carolina Wilmington invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor beginning Fall 2024. The primary responsibilities for this position include excellence in teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in accounting, conducting scholarly activities that result in high quality, peer-reviewed publications, and service to advance the mission of the department, school, university, and the academy. Instructional duties include teaching three classes per semester. Accountancy and Business Law faculty members are also expected to engage with the professional community by participating in periodic department-sponsored events and activities related to recruitment and placement of accounting graduates.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
  • A Ph.D. with a concentration in Accounting or closely related area from an AACSB or equivalent accredited program is required.
  • Experience teaching Accounting at the university level is also required.
  • Candidates with earned degrees will be given preference, but ABDs will also be considered if degree completion is expected by August 2024.
Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills & Experience
  • Experience teaching courses in various aspects of accounting information systems and analytics as well as core accounting courses.
  • Preference will be given to candidates with both face-to-face and online instruction experience and an interest in teaching at the master’s level.

Primary Function of Organizational Unit

The Department of Accountancy and Business Law offers a concentration in Accountancy in the Bachelor of Science in Business Administration, a minor in Accountancy and Business Law, and the Master of Science in Accountancy degree. The Master of Science in Accountancy program enrolls an annual cohort of 40-60 students and achieves over 95% placement upon graduation. The Department also offers courses in Accounting and Business Law in the MBA program and is home to an active chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, an honor organization for financial information students and professionals.

College/School Information

UNCW boasts a beautiful 661-acre wooded campus with approximately 16,500 students and is one of the fastest growing institutions in the University of North Carolina system. The Cameron School of Business is AACSB accredited and serves more than 2200 business majors, including graduate students in the PMBA, EMBA, M.S. in Accounting, International MBA, M.S in Business Analytics, M.S. in Finance and Investments, and M.S. in Computer Science and Information Systems programs.
