Walla Walla Community College (WWCC) is seeking applicants for a Director of John Deere and Transportation Programs position at the Walla Walla campus.

General Description:

The Director of John Deere and Transportation Programs, in collaboration with the Dean, provides management and support for assigned workforce instructional programs. The Director works collaboratively with faculty and staff to achieve enrollment, retention, completion and employment goals and objectives that further the mission of the College. The Director is responsible for recommending assigned program budgets, providing budget oversight and recommending faculty course assignments. The Director reports to the Dean of Workforce Transfer and Trades.


Essential Functions:

John Deere:

  • Provides leadership to the John Deere Technology program
  • Promote effective working relationships with John Deere Corporate team
  • Identification of equipment training needs from John Deere Corporation
  • Support Instructors in JD Tech and be a backup instructor
  • Work with instructors and advisory committee to enhance curriculum
  • Provide college of tomorrow reporting for John Deere Tech College of tomorrow
  • Recruit and promote WWCC John Deere Tech through college and career fairs
  • Attend agriculture and farm shows and expos to promote WWCC programs
  • Give tours of WWCC and JD Tech when potential students, family or dealers come to visit
  • Help future students with onboarding into JD Tech WWCC.
  • Work with dealerships in developing partnerships with potential students
  • Communicate with students on co-op dealership internships
  • Inform sponsor dealers about student performance and future coursework
  • Troubleshoot student enrollment and financial aid issues
  • Monitor student performance in all courses, including related instruction courses
  • Advise students and guide them through the enrollment process
  • Develop quarterly course schedules in partnership with other chairs and/or directors
  • Follow up with students and dealership on meeting co-op expectations
  • Work to resolve any issues that may be developing at the dealership with the partnered student
  • Manage resources on loan from John Deere

  • Designated Workforce Programs:

  • Provide direction and support to faculty members as assigned (guide and mentor)
  • Monitor, review and report program enrollment, retention, completion and employment
  • Coordinate and aid with new program development and existing program modifications
  • Recommend workforce programs/courses for distance learning delivery development
  • Coordinate and supervise program assessment and accreditation processes
  • Coordinate and supervise workforce advisory committees for assigned programs
  • Develop budget recommendations and provide budget oversight as assigned
  • Recommend faculty course assignments and quarterly faculty course loads
  • Identify and recommend required classroom / lab facilities
  • Review and recommend faculty teaching loads; assuring that conformance with institutional policy and contractual agreements are met
  • Monitor and coordinate evaluation of faculty, management, and classified personnel in the division as assigned
  • Monitor and coordinate workforce faculty instructor certification program
  • Identify and recommend potential instructor hires
  • Identify grant proposals and assist with writing and/or management of proposals
  • Recommend resolution and/or resolve student issue
  • Provide administrative support on projects undertaken by the Dean of Workforce Transfer and Trades

  • Ability to cultivate culturally relevant relationships with dealers and John Deere corporate representatives
  • Effective leadership and management skills.
  • Experience or have demonstrated commitment to teaching, mentoring and/or engaging in services for students from diverse cultural, ethnic, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds.
  • Ability to work outdoors and indoors in varying conditions and comply with safety regulations and policies.

  • REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Experience in the agriculture industry (3+ years)
  • Demonstrate the completion of industry professional developments opportunities
  • Teaching or training experience in industry
  • A demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity & inclusion

  • PREFFERED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Considerable (generally three (3) to five (5) years) years of experience working in the John Deere dealership network.
  • Associate of applied science (AAS) in JD Tech or in a related field.
  • Teaching/training experience in a college environment
  • Bilingual in Spanish
  • Knowledge of and experience with John Deere agricultural equipment
  • Demonstrated ability to work with persons from varied cultural, ethnic, gender, age, socioeconomic, and educational backgrounds
  • Participation in professional development activities and interdisciplinary projects

  • Equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered at the discretion of the college.

    Conditions/Terms of Employment
    This is a full-time administrative exempt position. Persons hired must be able to provide acceptable documentation of lawful authorization to work in the United States within three (3) days of employment. WWCC participates in E-Verify and will provide the federal government with your Form I-9 information to confirm that you are authorized to work in the U.S. Official college transcripts required at time of hire. Candidates may be subject to a criminal history background check as a condition of employment. Information from the background check may not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicant's suitability and competence to perform in the position. The college is a tobacco free institution.

    This position may require physically demanding labor to perform essential functions on machinery and equipment. Travel is required for industry collaboration, dealership visits, recruitment and professional development activities. Position may travel 3-5 times per quarter for multiple days.

    Compensation:

    Annual salary range: $95,000-98,000. The college has an excellent benefit program including paid sick leave; paid vacation leave; medical, dental, life, and long-term disability insurance; retirement and two optional deferred compensation programs. All full-time employees will automatically have 3% of taxable income deferred into the State of Washington Deferred Compensation Program (DCP). All administrative exempt staff set aside 1% of their gross salary in a Health Reimbursement Arrangement (HRA) (VEBA). All exempt employees are required to participate in this program. Walla Walla Community College requires all employees to participate in direct deposit for payment of salary.
