Lycoming College is hiring an Assistant Dean of Student Transition and Accessibility!  Lycoming College is seeking a dynamic team player with strong interpersonal skills to collaborate with campus offices to promote a smooth transition experience from high school graduate to first-year college student for the diverse student body enrolled at Lycoming College.  The Assistant Dean works in partnership with offices across campus to develop and implement new student orientation programming for the fall and spring semesters and works to support pro-active retention strategies designed to promote early academic success for individual students, incoming affinity groups, and the full class cohort. The Assistant Dean teaches a half-credit seven-week first-year seminar for spring semester matriculants.  As a member of the Referral Management Team, the Assistant Dean provides individual support for students experiencing academic challenges identified through faculty/staff notifications and early assessment grades. The Assistant Dean directs the Office of Accessibility Resources and reports to the Dean of the College.

What will I do in this role?

  • Supports Admissions yield programming, including Accepted Students Day presentations and individual student meetings upon request.
  • In strong collaboration with offices across the College’s divisions, implements orientation programming for both fall and spring confirmed new students, including, but not limited to:
    • Orientation task list and accompanying web site content
    • June Warrior Days
    • peer support programming
    • Warrior Welcome Week academic orientation activities
    • January new student orientation
  • Oversees the selection, hiring, training, and performance of the student staff working with orientation activities. 
  • Collaborates with the International Student Advisor on international student transition and integration.
  • Assists Admissions, Academic Affairs, and Student Life with summer melt intervention.
  • Serves as a point of contact for parents and guardians of first-year students on a wide variety of academic and non-academic issues, making appropriate campus office referrals for specific area support.
  • Plans and teaches Campus Connections, a seven-week half credit first-year support course offered within the fall semester (typically two sections per fall semester).
  • Teaches a spring semester first-year seminar for spring semester matriculants.
  • Supports a caseload of students at risk for persistence.
  • Serves on the Partnership Leadership Team
  • Directs the Office of Accessibility Resources, including working closely with the Consulting Psychologist for Accessibility Resources to determine appropriate accommodations for all students who provide disability documentation.

What are we looking for?

  • A minimum of three years of experience in student-oriented administration or college teaching experience.
  • Passion for working with and supporting students transitioning from high school to college.
  • Experience coordinating services for students with accessibility needs.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents across a wide spectrum of issues, concerns, challenges, and successes.
  • Experience in successful programming and event planning within a collaborative environment
  • Excellent public speaking and presentation skills including the ability to present the College in a positive way to diverse populations.
  • Professionalism and ability to contribute to fostering a positive work/learning environment.
  • Effective collaborator across a wide array of personnel and offices
  • Effective interpersonal skills (listening, verbal/non-verbal, and written communication skills)
  • Effective conflict resolution and creative problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle confidential matters with discretion.
  • Effective organization and time management skills
  • A valid U.S. driver’s license
