JOB TITLE &CODE: Coordinator Anesthesiology (60021)

DEPARTMENT: Anesthesia

REPORTS TO: Chief CRNA and Manager

FLSA STATUS: Exempt

POSITION SUMMARY : Coordinates and evaluates all clinical elements including material and human resources in the provision of specified areas of responsibility. Coordinates the clinical aspects related to Anesthesia technicians and Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetists including education, advancement of skills and maintenance of scope of practice.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE:

1. Must be a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) OR a Clinical member (Medical Doctor) of the Anesthesiology department

with at least 3 years of experience.

2. OR Four years professional Registered Nurse (RN) experience with at least 2 years’ experience in management

3. CRNA Candidates: Must possess current license to practice Registered Professional Nursing in

West Virginia AND licensed as a CRNA.

CORE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: The statements described here are intended to describe the general nature of work being performed by people assigned to this position. 1. Performs the duties of a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA).

2. Assists in the development and implementation of on-going educational programs for professional and support staff which include new employee orientation, in-service continuing education, and new equipment and/or systems training which enables the staff to perform on the basis of current policy/procedures and state-of-the-art practices

3. Provides oversight for all clinical aspects related to Anesthesia Technician services and care.

4. Serves as a resource to appropriate QI/PI teams

5. Completes special projects as assigned by the Chief CRNA and Manager

6. Acts in the absence of the Chief CRNA and Manager for all functions related to Anesthesia Services

7. Provides input for the Perioperative Leadership team and the Chairman of Anesthesia Services to assist them in developing, monitoring, and controlling cost center budgets for Anesthesia services

8. Engages in fiscal activities in order to ensure the availability of supplies, equipment, and human resources to meet patient care needs in a timely & cost effective manner; specifically pertaining to Anesthesia related services.

9. Assures the most economical utilization of time, materials and resources through the review of workflow and staffing patterns in order to achieve optimal productivity and to provide cost effective staffing patterns that ensure appropriate utilization of staff and skill mix to provide patient care.

10. Through daily rounds, assesses customer satisfaction issues and takes appropriate action to resolve.

11. Works in conjunction with the leadership staff and staff/physicians, in identifying areas of opportunity for improved efficiency, cost reduction (through standardization and physician profiling) and improvement in quality care delivery utilizing the Performance Improvement process.

12. In conjunction with the Perioperative Services Nurse Manager and Chief CRNA: Assures the adherence of all standards and policies as set forth by WVUH and the accrediting bodies for the purposes of licensure, regulation, and accreditation

13. Assures the completion of proficiency testing procedures, including evaluation of proficiency testing reports.

14. Participates in the development, review, and communication of policies and procedures ensuring information is available for staff in a timely manner and incorporates into unit practice routines

15. Facilitates the professional development of personnel. Oversees and participates in the orientation, training, and continuing education of the staff and other health related personnel.

16. Plans, organizes, implements and evaluates the delivery of Anesthesia Technician care in accordance with Standards of Practice and Standards of Care

17. Collaborates with medical staff to ensure Anesthesia Technician care is consistent with medical staff procedures. Collaborates with other healthcare providers.

18. Directs and monitors the instruction, supervision and evaluation of students and new employees.

19. Identifies current and anticipates future departmental educational needs.Collaborates with Education Specialist and staff in the development of departmental education plan, including evaluation of the process and outcome, and facilitation of staff participation.
