Job Summary:
To manage and implement a variety of campus-based and virtual activities designed to encourage alumni engagement, create opportunities for alumni to return to campus, and support the overall mission of the Alumni and Development Team. The Assistant Director strives to cultivate in Furman University alumni the desire to maintain a lifelong, mutually beneficial relationship with alma mater.
Job Description:
Responsibilities:
- Manage and direct the planning and implementation of
Homecoming, a signature engagement opportunity for all alumni. Work
with the Executive Director and Associate Director of Alumni &
Parent Engagement, as well as the Senior Director of Alumni
Communications, to develop annual Homecoming plan that includes
marketing and communications, events programming, volunteer and
staff management. Cultivate and manage partnership relationships
with Facilities, Catering, Athletics, Student Life, Academic
Affairs, and external vendors. Secure all arrangements for
facilities, catering, decor, registration, and other event needs
for both on campus and off-campus Homecoming events. Manage budget
and develop a comprehensive assessment that informs future
planning.
- Oversee coordination of all class reunion and select
affinity/identity group activities. Recruit, train and steward
alumni volunteers on an ongoing basis. Coordinate staff for all
reunion events. Work with alumni affinity groups including but not
limited to Furman Singers and Furman Military Alumni to plan
on-campus reunions and reunion weekends.
- Coordinate and plan all legacy programming for Orientation,
Family Weekend, and Commencement. Serve as primary contact for the
Office of Admission in corresponding with (or providing activities
for) potential legacies.
- Coordinate and plan all aspects of 50th Reunion Commencement
event. Responsibilities include promotion and correspondence,
registration, catering, decor, transportation, regalia rentals and
the commencement march.
- Undergraduate student engagement: Serve as the advisor for the
Student Alumni Council (SAC). Assist in the planning of SAC's
signature events. Plan and coordinate the annual ring ceremony for
students who have purchased a class ring.
- Assist with virtual alumni engagement activities. In
partnership with Executive Director and Associate Director, recruit
and secure alumni and faculty expert for programming opportunities.
Manage Alumni Learning Consortium (ALC) communications and various
online projects.
- Work closely with the Senior Director of Alumni Communications
for alumni correspondence via email, mail, and social
media.
- Serve as an active and eager team member for departmental,
division, or campus-wide events and initiatives that demand team
support.
- Perform other duties as required.
- Communicate openly and recognize the contributions of
co-workers and supervisor.
- Complete performance review process with supervisor and
colleagues to understand job performance expectations and how they
fit into the department and university goals.
- Pursue professional development to keep pace with demands for
services and information; including maintaining up to date
information about the department and university.
Relationships:
Daily contact with members of own work unit and immediate supervisor to plan, coordinate, problem solve, present information, and make suggestions related to mutual goals.
Frequent contact with venues and businesses both local and globally to coordinate various functions including but not limited to banquets, tailgates, meetings, parties and lectures.
Reports To: Associate Director of Alumni & Parent Engagement
Education/Skill Requirements:
Bachelor's Degree with 3-5 years experience in related field.
Strong interpersonal skills including a service-oriented approach, and ability to interact with all types of people.
Strong organizational skills with the ability to handle multiple projects at once.
High energy level and positive attitude.
Ability to work independently and as a part of the overall Development effort.
General computer proficiency (Microsoft Office Suite, common social media outlets, etc.)
Work Conditions:
Work is performed under usual office conditions.
Occasional travel may be required.
Some night and weekend work required.
