California State University, San Bernardino (CSUSB)—a preeminent center of intellectual and cultural activity in the Inland Empire—is part of the California State University system (CSU), the largest system of higher education in the country.

The 441-acre park-like campus blends modern facilities with wide expanses of beautifully maintained landscapes and panoramic views of the San Bernardino Mountains. It is conveniently located 55 miles east of Los Angeles and 10 miles from the historic downtown of San Bernardino.

A designated Minority and Hispanic-Serving Institution, CSUSB enrolls more than 20,000 students and graduates approximately 4,000 students annually. There are over 2,600 employees. The university offers more than 70 traditional baccalaureate and master's degree programs, education credential and certificate programs, and a doctorate program in educational leadership within five academic colleges: College of Arts and Letters, Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration, College of Education, College of Natural Sciences, and College of Social and Behavioral Sciences.

CSUSB reflects the dynamic diversity of the region. It has the most diverse student population of any university in the Inland Empire and the second highest African American and Hispanic enrollments in the CSU system. 88% percent of students are seeking an undergraduate degree, and 82% percent attend on a full-time basis. CSUSB has one of the highest first-year retention rates among the CSU and other national regional comprehensive universities. Eighty-one percent of those who graduate are the first in their families to do so.

Department Summary

The Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration serves approximately 3,400 undergraduate and 600 graduate students. Accredited by AACSB (The Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business) and NASPAA (National Association of Schools of Public Affairs and Administration), the college has a diverse array of traditional and online programs designed to be responsive to regional and global demands for engaged business leadership. Offerings accommodate a variety of specializations with 19 concentrations and a variety of certificates most recently in cybersecurity, analytics, and digital marketing. There are five academic departments, one school, and six centers of excellence.

Graduate degrees offered are as follows: MBA, MPA, MSA, MSIST, MSEI, MSF.

Two undergraduate degrees are offered: a BS in Information Systems and Technology and a BA in Administration. BA Administration students select a concentration from the programs delivered in the academic departments.

College enrollment for Fall 2020 was 3,895 students (undergraduate, graduate, and certificate seekers), with 71% attending full-time. There are 72 full-time faculty and 71 adjuncts.

Job Summary

The Dean serves as the chief academic, fiscal, and administrative officer for the Jack H. Brown College of Business and Public Administration. The next Dean will find an innovative, engaged, and inclusive community of faculty, staff, and students poised to respond to emerging regional, national, and global business and policy issues. The College enjoys a well-deserved reputation for developing talented business leaders. Primary among the responsibilities and opportunities for the Dean is the following areas:
  • Manage all college resources (fiscal, facilities, and personnel)
  • Lead a collaborative effort to promote, assess and support high-quality educational programs and effective management systems (such as business processes, curricular alignment, internal college policies, student support programs)
  • Oversee curriculum planning and development and course scheduling, ensuring equity, efficiency, and student access/success
  • Oversee accreditation and implement outcomes assessment for undergraduate and graduate business and public administration programs, including liaison with AACSB and NASPAA
  • Promote continued relevant innovation for programs and centers that is foundational and at the same time aspirational
  • Increase community-university engagement activities, high impact practice opportunities, and curricular and co-curricular service-learning opportunities for students
  • Promote excellence in faculty teaching, scholarship, and discovery; support faculty development and engagement, recognizing the diverse and important contributions made through teaching, research, and service.
  • Support, leverage, and expand CSUSB's research agenda
  • Recruit and retain quality and diverse faculty; conduct faculty and staff periodic and performance reviews
  • Advance CSU's Graduation Initiative 2025, CSUSB's Strategic Plan, and Academic Affairs and College goals and priorities, engaging diverse departments and faculty through a transparent process
  • Sustain an environment of academic excellence and collegiality
  • Engage the college in fostering an inclusive community that recognizes and supports different identities and life experiences at CSUSB, fulfilling CSUSB's central commitment to diversity
  • Engage in collaborative efforts with faculty, committees, Department Chairs, and Program Coordinators, the Academic Affairs Leadership Team, University leadership, Student Affairs, and community partners
  • Prepare and/or contribute to a variety of reports related to the college and provide recommendations to the provost
  • Engage the Inland Empire Community and alumni to promote the college and to better understand needs and opportunities that can continue to inform a culture of innovation and success; secure partnerships and funding to facilitate growth and innovation
  • Collaborate with University Advancement on marketing strategies and announcements to promote the college

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm, weekends and evenings may be required.

Education and Experience
  • Earned terminal degree
  • A record of excellent teaching, scholarship, and service, consistent with eligibility for an appointment at the rank of Professor
  • Five years of progressively responsible leadership experience in academic administration
  • Experience with national accreditation for business colleges (AACSB)
  • Commitment to academic excellence and the ability to work with college leadership and faculty to develop, articulate and implement a constructive vision for the college
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to listen to diverse stakeholders and collaboratively chart a path together toward a shared vision
  • Evidence of a strong commitment to effectively engage and work with a diverse student population, many of whom are first-generation and/or come from underrepresented groups
  • Understanding of best practices at the college level of student success and enrollment programs
  • Commitment to shared governance in a collective bargaining environment
  • Familiarity with a college-level budget and management operations
  • Ability to use data and assessment to inform decision making
  • Interest in and support for faculty in developing programs that respond to emerging business leadership priorities

Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience at the associate dean or dean level within a college
  • Demonstrated experience with budgeting and resource allocation in expanding and contracting budget environments
  • Successful record of community engagement and fundraising with donors, foundations, and public organizations
  • Experience with a collective bargaining faculty unit

Salary

Anticipated Hiring Range: $225,00 - $250,000/annually

Classification Hiring Range: $110,000 - $330,000/annually
