Job Description

The Senior Programmer Analyst is primarily responsible for defining and analyzing business systems related issues, and for solving, designing, and implementing solutions that address those issues. Works extensively with other University offices to help them articulate needs and to translate those needs into system specifications. Also works with vendors on designing and implementing data integrations between systems. The Senior Programmer Analyst works as part of a cross-trained team within the university’s centrally managed IT unit administering mission-critical business systems including but not limited to the university’s student, financial, human resource, and payroll systems; the enterprise content management system; and other related enterprise applications. The Senior Programmer Analyst reports to the Director of Enterprise Applications.

Duties & Responsibilities

Design, develop, implement, test, and support workflow, automation, and programming within and between systems.
Partner with business users to analyze and define business requirements and functional specifications and recommend solutions.
Perform functional application setup, configuration, and testing with business users.
Perform full reporting lifecycle support (needs assessment, design, build, test, deploy, support)
Troubleshoot production problems related to the university’s centrally managed applications.
Design develop and maintain data integrations between University systems
Serve as technical lead on projects and to communities of practice supporting the centrally managed business systems.
Develop and maintain system documentation
Attend and conduct a variety of meetings as assigned; participate in internal and external user groups; serve on assigned committees
Communicate issues, critical problems and situations to appropriate managers, both customer and IT. Identify and resolve data, reporting and other application systems problems. Communicate solutions to customers in an effective and efficient manner. Ensure effective inter and intra team communications.
Effectively evaluate, prioritize and manage client service requests
Develop internal working relationships in order to effectively communicate and manage client needs
Other responsibilities as assigned by the immediate supervisor

Qualification Standards

Understanding of integration technologies such as APIs, web services, workflows.
Experience using industry standard software for report writing.
Experience with ETL technologies.
Current skills in high-level programming languages such as Pick, UniData, UniVerse, Envision Basic, C#, Visual Basic, etc.
Working knowledge of SQL and relational database technologies.
Task oriented and able to work on three or more projects simultaneously.
Strong analytical, coding, testing, documentation, and interpersonal skills including excellent oral and written communication.
Team player who can also work independently.
Strong customer service skills with the ability to deal tactfully and effectively with students, faculty, staff, vendors, and the public.
Ability to train end-users effectively
Demonstrated ability to develop proficiency with unfamiliar toolsets
Attention to detail, patience, and a positive, customer centric attitude
Demonstrated ability to meaningfully contribute value as member of a team, supporting coworkers when necessary to ensure a positive user experience and smooth operations; including reliability and punctuality.

Education

Bachelor’s degree with coursework in computer science, MIS, IT, or other related area plus one (1) year related full-time experience OR a combination of related education and/or experience.

Physical Demands

Job will occasionally require scheduled tasks outside of normal work hours to accommodate maintenance that must be done after hours or before hours in order to minimize impact of downtime on business operations.
Employee may occasionally be called upon after hours to assist in resolving critical system incidents

Experience

A minimum of three years experience as a Programmer Analyst, and experience supporting large, complex business systems.
Experience in Higher Education ERP and reporting tools with strong preference to candidates who have experience with Ellucian Colleague and/or Entrinsik Informer
Preference to candidates who also have experience supporting Blackboard LMS, The Raiser’s Edge, Perceptive Content / Image Now, CBORD CS-Gold
