About the Opportunity:

The Office of Financial Aid at Brown University supports a comprehensive financial aid program that awards hundreds of millions of dollars annually to undergraduates through the University’s need-blind policies and provides financial support and advising to all undergraduate and graduate students.

Responsibilities :

The Director of Graduate School Financial Aid serves as a member of the senior leadership team of the OFA. Along with the Dean of Financial Aid and the Senior Director of Operations & Systems, this person is responsible for managing the functions and processes for the review, packaging, and delivery of financial aid to a portfolio of over $17.5 million dollars in federal funding for approximately 2,900 graduate students. As part of the management team, this individual assists in the OFA’s strategic goal setting, leads a graduate team to address designated goals, and assesses the achievement of meeting those stated goals.

The primary responsibilities of the Director of Graduate School Financial Aid are to ensure the timely processing, by the OFA staff, of over 2,000 graduate financial aid applications annually submitted by applicants and current students. In addition, this position manages the overall counseling efforts and communication strategies, both internal and external, for the OFA as it pertains to graduate students.

The Director of Graduate School Financial Aid serves as the lead when communicating with other Graduate School departments, internal and external business partners, and others to ensure consistent and timely communication of any and all policy and procedure changes and is responsible for orchestrating business process efficiencies, balancing priorities with workload requests and coordinating regulatory compliance updates.

The individual will represent the Office of Financial Aid on committees and working groups on campus to ensure that the OFA is kept up-to-date on any adjustments or changes to policies and procedures in other departments that relate to the functions and responsibilities of the OFA and the administration of federal graduate student aid.

Qualifications :
  • Bachelor’s degree in higher education, college student personnel, business administration, or a related field required; Master’s Degree or advanced degree preferred.
  • Seven or more years of progressively responsible management experience in higher education, not-for- profit or financial aid administration, or a related administrative area, with at least five years of direct supervisory experience.
  • Ability to manage and motivate staff and organize and prioritize work for the effective fulfillment of financial aid duties and responsibilities. Knowledge of laws and policies pertaining to monitoring federal loan programs with an emphasis on compliance.
  • Proven extensive experience with higher education policies and procedures related to federal aid.
  • Knowledge of graduate school aid processing.
  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to work with people in a diverse and fast paced environment.
  • Proven ability of consensus building and relationship management skills in a higher education environment.
  • Experience and willingness to promote staff professional development.
  • Dedication to a high standard of student service to students from a variety of backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to support a community of diverse perspectives and cultures in an inclusive environment.
