Description

The Head Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving coach will serve as the primary coach and administrator for the men's and women's swimming and diving programs. The Head Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving Coach will be responsible for instructing students in the areas of sports fundamentals, sportsmanship, and leadership, film, scouting, recruiting, academic and conduct monitoring, and strength and conditioning. The Director of Aquatics is responsible for the overall supervision and operation of the Webber Swimming Pool.

Examples of Duties

Head Swimming Coach:
  • Coaching responsibilities to include; instructing students on sport fundamentals, setting goals, setting clear expectations, and providing feedback to students
  • Demonstrate teaching and coaching competencies with regards to skill instruction and tactical strategies
  • Motivation and ability to conduct daily instruction and practice sessions
  • Design and execute a competitive schedule
  • Monitor and provide input and instruction regarding the strength and conditioning program for the team
  • Program budget management
  • Organize team travel arrangements including meals, hotels, and transportation
  • The willingness to work with the men's and women's swimming and diving program on annual planning and promotions
  • Participate in department wide and sport specific fundraising efforts
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting plan to include recruiting qualified collegiate student-athletes
  • Provide leadership in the personal, academic, and athletic development of student-athletes
  • Monitoring the academic progress of student-athletes to ensure they are meeting academic course requirements and providing guidance and instruction to students to ensure success
  • Monitoring the conduct of the student-athletes and teaching athletes to work together; develop written team expectations
  • Supervise and utilize assistant coaches
  • Implement the basic principles and policies of the athletic governing bodies (NCAA / GNAC / ECAC) and Husson University

Director of Athletics:
  • Responsible for and monitoring the operational labor budget for Webber Pool
  • Develop and monitor Webber Pool summaries to ensure pool chemistry, participation and programming are evaluated annually and meeting regulatory guidelines
  • Responsible for hiring, training, effectively utilizing, evaluation of and the recertification of all the Webber Pool staff
  • Develop procedures that will support effective personal management
  • Responsible for safe operation of University swimming area within Certified Pool Operator guidelines.
  • Responsible for conducting yearly programs including but not limited to all aquatic Wellness classes, swimming lessons and area high school swim teams.
  • Responsible for developing, implementing and overseeing all activities, classes, events and activities schedule for Webber Pool.
  • Responsible for marketing efforts, publications ,website development and other promotional activities(including pool rentals)
  • Responsible to perform duties as a liaison between University, community and area schools.
  • Review and answer routine memos and correspondence under own signature and or at permission of the University.
  • Attend workshops for the purpose of learning new ideas to enhance program/activity delivery or workshops related to facility regulation.
  • Certification/recertification in AED/CPR and First Aide for University coaches.
  • Other job related duties and responsibilities as assigned by AD

Typical Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Education:

B.A. or B.S. degree required, Master's degree preferred

Experience:

Two years successful coaching experience at the high school, collegiate, or club level, head coaching experience preferred, and the ability to work successfully in a highly competitive Division III environment. Coaching licenses, certifications, and badges preferred. A minimum of one years experience in operating aquatic facilities is required.

Knowledge, Skills and/or Abilities:

Working knowledge of coaching both swimming and diving. The ability to work with recruiting software, and the ability to create film sessions with both individual members of the team and the full team. Excellent organizational and communication skills. Skills in dealing with the general public and the university community.
