Overview
Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory has an open position for a Principal Research Physicist at the NSTX-U national fusion user facility, located in Princeton, N.J. The candidate will join a dynamic team of scientists with diverse expertise working to advance understanding and develop new approaches to advance the NSTX-U scientific program, which emphasizes core turbulence and transport, integrated scenario development, and boundary physics. The successful candidate will serve as the NSTX-U Research Deputy Department Head, which entails helping to coordinate aspects of the strong and diverse collaborative research program on NSTX-U. The successful candidate will also conduct original research, and mentor students from Princeton Univ. and other universities participating in the NSTX-U program. Participating in strategic collaborations on worldwide ST facilities will be encouraged, which would require periodic travel.

Responsibilities
Core Duties:
The successful candidate will be responsible for helping the NSTX-U Research Department Head to organize the NSTX-U research program, and to conduct research and disseminate results in the form of talks, posters, and refereed journal articles. In addition, the candidate will:
- Help with planning and coordination of selected aspects of the NSTX-U research portfolio, including oversight of early career researchers.
- Design and lead experiments and subsequent analysis in NSTX-U.
- Aid in coordinating model validation efforts in collaboration with the PPPL theory and computational sciences group.
- Participate in collaborative activities on worldwide ST collaborations, if time permits.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Applicant must have a Ph.D. in plasma physics, nuclear engineering, or a related field.
- Strong analytical and English communication skills and experience in spherical tokamak research are required.
- Minimum 10 years of experience after PhD is required.
