Job Summary:

The Department of Medical Sciences of the University of Wisconsin-Madison, School of Veterinary Medicine invites applications for a clinical-track, full-time, 12-month renewable position within the Large Animal Internal Medicine Section of the Morrie Waud Large Animal Hospital. The successful candidate will join four other ACVIM boarded large animal internists providing clinical service within the Large Animal Hospital on the UW-Madison campus. The Morrie Waud Large Animal Teaching Hospital is a collegial, collaborative environment that offers specialty care with board certified experts in allied services including Large Animal Surgery, Anesthesia and Pain Management, Cardiology, and Diagnostic Imaging. The current case-load is comprised of approximately 70 % horses, 30 % food animal (principally dairy cattle) and a small number of camelids and other farm animal species. Approximately 650 large animal medicine patients are evaluated annually with a growing caseload in all species over the last several years. A predominance of cases are in-patients, with a significant number of critical care patients.

The successful candidate will commit time to activities of both the hospital and school, participating in the clinical activities of the hospital including patient evaluation and management, instruction and supervision of veterinary students, interns, and residents. Availability and willingness to consult with referring veterinarians and clients, as well as to provide emergency service, is vitally important. The candidate will also participate in the didactic teaching of students and continuing education programs. It is expected that the successful candidate will participate in basic science or clinical research that advances academic clinical practice through collaborative and/ or independent efforts. Clinical, outreach and teaching opportunities outside the hospital and school also exist.

Responsibilities:

For clinical track faculty, the distribution of time in clinical service, non-clinical teaching, research, and other service is expected to be approximately 40%, 25%, 25%, 10%, respectively. The position is offered at the Assistant, Associate or Full Professor rank, depending on qualifications and is available once a suitable candidate is identified with a projected start date of July 1st 2023.

Qualifications:

Board certified or board eligible with the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine (Large Animal) or European College of Equine Internal Medicine.

Aptitude and/or experience in clinical instruction of DVM students, interns, and residents.
