Summary:
The College of Lake County is looking to add Instructional Assistants to the team. The Instructional Assistant will provide administrative and supervisory support for the Explore Youth Academic Enrichment Program, Engage STEM Career Exploration Program and the Fast-Paced Program for Gifted Youth.

Required Qualifications:
  1. Associate’s Degree or higher or equivalent relevant coursework.
  2. Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with parents and students in an educational setting.
  3. Minimum of two (2) years of experience teaching children.
  4. Excellent two-way communication and relationship skills.
  5. Commitment to maintain confidentiality and adhere to college and FERPA guidelines.
  6. Demonstrate integrity in work, academic and personal relationships.
  7. Maturity and experience necessary to make responsible decisions to maintain student safety, healthy parent and student relationships and program integrity in all matters.
  8. Commitment to communicate program issues, questions and needs to senior program coordinator in a timely manner.
  9. Available to work flexible schedule.
  10. Proficient in using educational technology (email, MS Office, internet, etc.)
  11. Aptitude for and willingness to learn department software (ACCESS, Destiny, PeopleSoft Class Climate, etc.)
  12. Willingness to become expert in program details, policies and procedures so as to be able to teach others.
  13. Proven ability to work effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities; demonstrate sensitivity to and ability to work with the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff, including those with disabilities; establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.


Desired Qualifications:
  1. Bachelor’s Degree or higher.
  2. K-12 teacher with IL Certification.
  3. Bilingual (English/Spanish).

Special Instructions Summary: This is a part-time flex position and employment shall be on an at-will basis, the duration of which shall be in accordance with the needs of the College of Lake County.Part-time flex employees are not eligible to participate in any benefits program at the College, including tuition reimbursement, tuition waiver, health insurance or paid time off.

Pay Rate: $15.17/HR

Total Hours Per Week: Up to 19 hours

Work Schedule:
Location varies by assignment:May be at Grayslake, Southlake (Vernon Hills) or Lakeshore (Waukegan) Campuses, Advanced Technology Center (Gurnee), University Center of Lake County (Grayslake) or Braeloch facilitySpring and Fall:Weekday evening hours 4:15-9 p.m.Saturday hours between 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m.Summer:Monday-ThursdayDaytime hours between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.

Summary of Essential Functions:
• Become expert in program details, policies and procedures so as to be able to teach others (training provided).
• Act as program liaison between parents, CLC Grayslake Personal Enrichment staff, Southlake staff, Lakeshore staff, Advanced Technology Center, University Center of Lake County, Braeloch facility, CLC Police Department, Facilities Department and IT Department.
• Assist in preparation of curriculum materials and class supplies.
• Set up, take down and organize sign-in/sign-out area, (including sign placement, tables, chairs, equipment, parent/student information, sign-in/sign-out materials, promotional and procedural documents and instructor materials and supplies).
• Serve as lead in coordinating sign-in/sign-out process.
• Provide ongoing mentorship and leadership to student workers.
• Supervise parent/adult sign-in and sign-out of students.
• Provide program information to Explore, Engage and Fast-Paced families.
• Provide classroom assistance and student supervision as needed.
• Organize, secure and process program-related documents in accordance with class and camp procedures.
• Provide administrative support as needed, including data entry, filing, computer work, emailing, social media updates, etc.
• Maintain ongoing communication (through text, email or Teams Chat, as directed) with class and camp program coordinator regarding issues, questions and program needs throughout each class or camp day.
• Coordinate inter-campus communication and program supplies with other instructional assistants and student workers, as directed.
• Provide nightly program updates via email to Personal Enrichment office.
• Troubleshoot problems with some independence.
• Other assigned program support duties as needed.
• Maintain confidentiality with all information and documents in accordance with program procedures.
• Periodically represent programs at community events.
