Scope of Job:
Provide clinical expertise in patient care management and an appropriate teaching environment for fellows, residents, and students. Practice clinical cancer medicine in an exemplary manner in standards set forth by the Texas State Board of Medical Examiners, and the American College of Physicians, properly balanced with other academic activities. Must be capable of providing complete and thorough history and physical patient examinations. Must be able to perform invasive procedures as dictated by the physician's subspecialty. This may require standing, bending, stooping, lifting, hearing, manual dexterity, and clear and concise verbal communications.
Develop and maintain a clinical practice for patients referred to UT Health RGV. Provide physician staffing for the out-patient clinic and in-patient services at a level commensurate with that which would be provided by other Oncology staff/internists with the same level of training and experience. Provide a role model as a practitioner for faculty, fellows, residents, and students. Provide peer review for assessing the clinical practice of faculty within the department.
Provide a balanced and integrated educational program in cancer medicine for learners rotating through the services. Develop and implement specific continuing education programs pertaining to cancer care. Analyze continuing education needs and, using a dictating machine or a computer and keyboard, develop continuing education programs.

Actively engage in clinical research and scholarly activities to enhance the academic environment. Develop programs of clinical research and scholarly activities as assigned. May necessitate instructing, through written or verbal communication, research support personnel in protocol implementation. Seek appropriate funding mechanisms to support clinical research. May require completion of grant application forms through oral dictation or use of a computer and keyboard. Also will require budget development and analysis.


Minimum Qualifications:
Doctorate-level degree in a field appropriate to the role of a Clinical Associate Professor or Professor and the mission of the management and treatment of patients with cancer and associated disorders. Licensed to practice medicine in Texas. Board Certification in a field appropriate to faculty role or department mission. Qualified for an appointment at the rank of associate professor or Professor at an LCME accredited medical school.



Discipline Specific Required Qualifications:
Completed an accredited oncology fellowship.

Preferred Qualification:
At least five years post completion of fellowship training.

Additional Information:
UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.

Texas law requires faculty members whose primary language is not English to
demonstrate proficiency in English as determined by a satisfactory paper-based
test score of 500 (computer-based of 173 or internet-based of 61) on the Test of
English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or a satisfactory test score of 6.0 on the
