The Director of Residence Life will lead the department to create an engaged community of learners at Indiana Tech. With the guidance of the university’s strategic plan, there is renewed interest to develop a world-class student experience that includes a residential destination campus. The Director will guide staff to support these goals while developing a dynamic program in support of student success, retention, and persistence.

 

Currently, Indiana Tech houses 680 students in eight facilities. A new 124-bed hall is being constructed with opening scheduled for Fall 2024.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities

  • Oversee overall management of the university student housing (688 beds, 8 facilities) and residence life program including administrative decision-making, leadership, and strategic planning.
  • Inform and educate residential students of the university procedures and resources.
  • Interpret, improve, and enforce housing contract policies and residence hall regulations by working with conduct issues and providing referrals to appropriate personnel/ departments/agencies where appropriate.
  • Maintain proper housing records utilizing Adirondack software effectively and efficiently.
  • Serve as the operational point-of-contact and university supervisor for Indiana Tech Dining Services. Maintain budget projections and expectations for all operations within Dining Services. Evaluate, develop, and update meal plan options, services offered, and hours of operations for students on an annual basis. Ensure university expectations regarding the quality of product, student engagement, learning outcomes, and other established goals.
  • Supervise and lead the Housing staff to achieve department and individual goals.
  • Meet or exceed student retention and occupancy goals through collaboration with VP of Student Affairs
  • Engage, collaborate, and communicate with all appropriate campus entities.
  • Collaborate with facilities management and custodial services to maintain a healthy living environment to support student learning.
  • Work with other departments or outside entities for the proper execution of learning communities, summer camps, or other residential facility use.
  • Oversee, track, and assess the execution and planning of Residence Life programming.
  • Oversee the development and ongoing assessment of student learning outcomes, satisfaction, and program participation for each department, analyzing the data, and documenting improvements/changes.
  • Collaborate and communicate with the Crisis Management Committee to provide a safe environment to the residential community.
  • Prepare, oversee, and manage the assigned department budgets.
  • Attend division, department, committee, and other meetings associated with the position. These include but are not limited to leading the Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) and serving on the Crisis Management Committee.
  • Complete other duties as assigned.

 

Measures of Accomplishment

Measures of accomplishment will be outlined when annual goals and objectives are set with supervisor and will include occupancy levels, student learning outcome assessment, student retention, and department leadership.

 

 

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree plus four years successful and progressive experience in higher education working with residence life in a supervisory role required.
  • Experience with student conduct, student affairs, or student development.
  • Demonstrated time management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication.
  • Possess and display proper interpersonal and human relations skills.
  • Proper management of conflicts, stress, and related issues of residential communities in a culturally sensitive manner with both individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds.
  • On-call availability is required
  • Available for occasional evenings and weekend campus events as well as response to residential crisis and emergencies.
