Position Description

The University of Washington’s Department of Medicine, Division of General Internal Medicine (GIM), is seeking applicants for a full-time (1.0 FTE) faculty position to be based at the University of Washington Medical Center (UWMC). The UWMC Section of GIM, which currently includes over 80 faculty members, has a long and rich tradition of scholarship and local and national leadership.

This position will include the role of Section Head at UWMC – Montlake and UWMC – Roosevelt, overseeing the clinical, educational, and research operations of the UWMC Section of GIM in partnership with the GIM Division Head and GIM clinical leaders. Some of the specific responsibilities would include the following:

  • Faculty development including assuring mentorship, monitoring academic progress and annual counseling;
  • Participation in study-section like review of faculty for promotion;
  • Recruitment of physician and support personnel;
  • Coordination of clinical programs including the Hospital and Consultative Medicine Services at UWMC – Montlake and the General Internal Medicine and Women's Clinics at UWMC – Roosevelt;
  • Coordination and oversight of educational activities including outpatient, resident and student teaching programs;
  • Management of space allocation within the Section;
  • Shared supervision of the Section Administrator and staff; and
  • Management of the Section's operations budget (R&T).

In addition to the leadership role, clinical duties may include inpatient hospitalist work, medical consults, outpatient primary care, or addiction related care. This position will include serving as an attending physician with direct patient care duties, and teaching and precepting residents and students.

This position will be at the Associate Professor or full Professor rank (without tenure due to funding). Salary and academic appointment at University of Washington will be commensurate with experience, qualifications, and academic rank. Associate and full professors WOT hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a 12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research, and service. The anticipated start date would be January 2, 2024.

Salary

The base salary range for this position will be: $19,667 - $21,667 per month ($236,004 - $260,004 annually) for the Associate Professor rank or $22,167 - $25,084 per month ($266,004 - $301,008 annually) for the Professor rank, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. This range is inclusive of base salary provided through the UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan, in addition to base salary provided by the University. Please note that only compensation provided by the University is included in University benefit determinations and calculations. Compensation provided by UW Physicians (UWP) practice plan may provide eligibility for separate benefits offered by that organization.

Other Compensation

Other compensation associated with this position will include (1) an administrative salary supplement for administrative service as Section Head and (2) a pay supplement (TPS) of $3,084 - $4,750 per month ($37,008 - $57,000 annually) for work on the hospital medicine service. TPS amounts are based on appointment FTE and clinical FTE (cFTE) at the time of hire.

Other compensation associated with this position may include incentive through UW Physicians practice plan.

Qualifications

Applicants must have an MD or DO degree (or foreign equivalent) and board certification in Internal Medicine (or foreign equivalent). Board certification in Internal Medicine must be completed within two years after residency.

In order to be eligible for University sponsorship for an H-1B visa, graduates of foreign (non-U.S,) medical schools must show successful completion of all three steps of the U.S. Medical Licensing Exam (USMLE) or equivalent as determined by the Secretary of Health and Human Services.
