Description/Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to lead, develop and deliver comprehensive student career development and placement services (both permanent and internship) in support of each student’s educational, occupational and personal growth. This will include developing relationships with potential employers, matching students and employers, professional development (resume creation and interview skills) and ongoing communication and oversight of internships. The Career Specialist will provide ongoing job development services to the students and help them to find and retain internships, full-time and part-time employment opportunities
Responsibilities/Duties
  • Complies with applicable federal and state laws and regulations, accreditor standards, and institutional policies and procedures, including but not limited to those related to student job placement;
  • Identifies, develops and secures relationships with employers to hire students/graduates of programs through externship to hire and direct hire job order opportunities;
  • Prepares students for job placement readiness for externship and future employment through relationship building, resume development and interview preparation;
  • Delivers and coordinates career development workshops and other student professional development functions and events;
  • Provides group and individual career-related coaching sessions for students and graduates;
  • Meets or exceeds job placement objectives as established by accrediting agencies and the state;
  • Keeps detailed and accurate records relating to externship and job search process for each student/graduate database;
  • Provides feedback and advice to the Director of Career Development & Employment Services regarding the state of the job market for the assigned program/program portfolio;
  • Proposes best practices and initiatives to improve specific functional areas such as business/job development, student activation, student mentorship and coaching, student professional development, and Externship to Hire;
  • Collaborate with employer relations team to maintain up to date knowledge of employers and employer/industry trends;
  • Maintain up to date knowledge of career, labor market and job search trends;
  • Engage and actively partner with students from admissions to employment with activities such as: mock interviews, professional workshops, resume writing, and workforce preparation;
  • Assist students in the job search and advise them on procedures for obtaining employment;
  • Partner with students, alumni and employers to schedule employment interviews;
  • Conduct graduate exit interviews and required graduate paperwork to determine and evaluate job interests;
  • Conduct follow up activities with students and employers regarding resume submissions and interviews;
  • Other related duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in related field and
  • 3 years exp working in higher ed or related field.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master’s Degree and
  • 5 yrs exp working in higher ed or related field
