Internship Coordinator
Public Health

Description
The San Diego State University School of Public Health is searching for an Internship Coordinator. In partnership with the Internship Program Manager, the coordinator works to align public health competencies, student learning objectives, school and preceptor needs and complies with CSU/CEPH requirements to inform the creation of high-quality competency-based field experiences. Core functions include internship request processing, coordination with assigned faculty, student advising, program development and evaluation, and other related administrative duties.

Detailed Core functions of the position include:

The Internship Program Coordinator part time (0.25 FTE) in the 2023 Summer term and full-time (1.0 FTE) in the 2023-2024 Academic Year reports to the Internship Program Manager. In partnership with the Internship Program Manager, the Internship Program Coordinator works to ensure a successful administration of SPH Connect (the new online internship management platform), processing of all internship requests, providing technical assistance to students and faculty, and other related assigned duties.
  1. Internship Program Coordination - Responsible for processing all students' (undergraduate and graduate) internship requests through SPH CONNECT; initiate and process hospital background check/vaccination requests through Complio and other similar management systems; collect and manage required approval documentation (COVID-19 Acknowledgement and Employer Verification of Requirements, if applicable); process and manage SDSU's Service-Learning Agreements.
  2. SPH Connect Administration Support - Day-to-day administrator of SPH CONNECT, the new online internship management platform; responsible for providing guidance and technical assistance to students and faculty; making updates and revisions to the system as needed; data entry, management, and reporting.
  3. Prospective Field Site Requests - Assist with outreach, training, and onboarding of prospective internship sites including registering them in SPH CONNECT, initiating Service-Learning Agreements and providing technical assistance as needed.
  4. Student & Faculty Communications - Send updates, announcements, and reminders; monitor and respond to student/faculty/preceptor email inquiries.
  5. Other duties as assigned - Includes but not limited to attending staff/faculty meetings, serve on internal and/or external committees, assist with CEPH accreditation, staff related events/workshops, etc.

  • Organization of internship placement sites
  • Experience with internship programs at the undergraduate/graduate level

Initial appointment is expected to last one academic year, to be renewed contingent on satisfactory evaluations and continuing availability of work.


Qualifications
Preferred Application Criteria
  • Graduate degree in Public Health, Public Health Administration or related field with minimum of five years of experience in the public health or related field
  • Effective communication and organizational skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work independently with a team
  • Strong project management, prioritization, and planning skills
  • University teaching experience preferred
  • Able to take direction well and able to establish and maintain professional credibility and diplomacy
