Summary
University of Health Sciences and Pharmacy in St. Louis is currently seeking a talented, team-oriented journeyman mechanic/HVAC/electrical maintenance to support our vibrant university campus. This position works first shift with weekend coverage option. Our maintenance tam is a small team of service-oriented maintenance specialists who work together to maintain classroom, research lab, office, dormitory, and dining campus facilities on our 9-acre campus in the heart of the Washington University Medical Center in St. Louis. General skill with commercial HVAC and building automation as well as skill or experience with repair and maintenance of mechanical, electrical, heating, ventilation and air conditioning, plumbing and structural systems as well as assists with event setup/teardown are needed.


Qualifications
To succeed in this role, you will need:
  • A high school diploma or the equivalent plus completion of a vocational/technical school or a recognized apprenticeship program in general mechanical maintenance, electrician, HVAC technician is required.
  • Significant mechanical maintenance experience beyond that required for the position and a demonstrated ability in one of the mechanical trades may be substituted for the required vocational/technical school or apprenticeship.
  • At least three years of successful experience with a strong preference for commercial HVAC, building automation, and electrical.
  • Ability to interpret wiring diagrams, blueprints, and schematics is required. Requires general mechanical ability which includes skills in the use of electrical test equipment, and small hand and power tools, mechanical equipment.
  • Understanding of general maintenance, mechanical, and electrical safety are required. All employees must have OSHA 10 or complete OSHA 10 within the first 90 days. OSHA 30 a plus.
  • Strong customer service approach and good verbal and written communication skills, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team and be adaptable are required. Computer literate in MS Word, Excel and Outlook. Experience with building automation software preferred.
  • A valid driver's license and acceptable driving record in order to operate university vehicles;
  • The position requires the ability to lift and transport materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds on a frequent basis and up to 100 pounds on an occasional basis; prolonged standing and frequent bending, stooping, and reaching on a daily basis; and working in confined spaces. Requires a full range of physical motion in order to operate manual and electrically powered tools and electrical test equipment, to move throughout campus, including climbing stairs and ladders, and to work at heights. Work is performed indoors and outdoors, occasionally in environments that are dusty, noisy, or which could have work hazards. Scope of the position requires exposure to and use of chemicals, solvents, cleaners, and lubricants common to mechanical work that may be hazardous and/or cause injury if specific instructions regarding their mixture, use, and disposal/storage are not properly followed.
  • Position must be available for occasional emergency.
