Associate Dean/Chief Academic Nursing Officer, John and Karen Arnold School of Nursing.

 

Alvernia University (AU) invites nominations and applications for the position of the Inaugural Associate Dean/Chief Academic Nursing Officer for the John and Karen Arnold School of Nursing (SON). Reporting to the Dean of the College of Health Sciences, this person will serve as the school’s chief academic and administrative officer providing visionary and effective leadership. The University seeks a forward thinking and innovative leader who will strategically position the SON for success. The Associate Dean must be skilled in engaging faculty and leading for the purpose of advancing the overall impact of the School of Nursing and continuing to build, grow, and strengthen educational and partnership opportunities. The Associate Dean will work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and administration to inaugurate the SON, support student success, ensure compliance with Federal, State, and accreditation standards and policies, and execute the strategic priorities for the School in alignment with the College and University’s Strategic plan.

EXPERIENCE AND QUALIFICATIONS:

To meet these challenges, the university seeks an individual with the following experience and qualifications:

  • Leadership and administrative experience in nursing education at the pre-licensure and graduate levels.
  • Alignment and commitment to the mission, vision, and Franciscan values of the University and the Nursing program.
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity, and to promoting inclusive excellence.
  • Ability to innovate and deliver creative strategies to promote growth and successfully navigate challenges specific to nursing.
  • Minimum of 5 years of teaching experience at the BSN level or higher at an accredited institution.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Demonstrates leadership to and management of the nursing programs, including initiative, or acting maintain and improve instruction quality.
  • Provides program data, reports, and schedules to the Dean of Health Sciences.
  • Collaborates with the Provost and Dean of Health Sciences in preparing performance evaluations of nursing faculty and evaluates the effectiveness of instruction.
  • Assesses clinical facility placement needs and evaluates the quality of clinical facilities in collaboration with the Academic Clinical Coordinator and in accordance with PA SBON standards to ensure that clinical learning experiences satisfy course and program objectives.
  • Establishes and monitors academic standards for each of the nursing programs.
  • Maintains program compliance with PA State Board of Nursing regulations and program accreditation standards.
  • Submits annual reports to the PA State Board of Nursing, American Association of Colleges of Nursing, National League for Nursing, and the Dean of Health Sciences.
  • Serves as the College's liaison with the PA State Board of Nursing.
  • Submits programmatic needs and curriculum changes to the Dean of Health Sciences, upon obtaining appropriate faculty input.
  • Assists the Dean of Health Sciences in implementing and monitoring the nursing programs budgets and identifying resource needs.
  • Organizes and leads meetings of the Nursing Programs.
  • Assists the Dean of Health Sciences in the recruitment and selection of nursing faculty and laboratory staff.
  • Organizes, plans, and implements SON functions in cooperation with the Office of the Dean of Health Sciences.
  • Assesses effectiveness of nursing student admissions process and provides recommendations for improvement to the Dean of Health Sciences and Senior Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs and Vice President of Partnership and Graduate and Adult Education.
  • Assists College and/or University officials in resolving faculty and student issues related to nursing programs.
  • Monitors nursing program retention and placement rates and provides recommendations for improvement, as needed.
  • Ensures faculty are oriented, held accountable to teaching and learning best practices through regular evaluation/feedback.
  • Implements and monitors a plan for the continuous assessment of clinical effectiveness and provides recommendations to the Dean of Health Sciences for improvement, as needed.
  • Maintains currency of knowledge in nursing education by attending state and national meetings of nursing educators and administrators.
  • Implements and assesses a plan for improving College/clinical agency relations through effective communications and regular site visits to affiliate agencies.
  • Advises the Dean of Health Sciences of issues and concerns that may have College-wide administrative impact.
  • Monitors nursing student, graduate, and employer surveys, and provides recommendations to the Dean of Health Sciences for program improvement, as needed.
  • Effectively represents the College of Health Sciences when serving on assigned College committees and attending community functions.
  • In collaboration with the University Grant Specialist, actively pursues grants and outside funding sources for major projects and equipment.
  • Fosters a departmental climate that supports collegiality and professional development of students, faculty, and staff.
