The Program Director - Physician Assistant, under the general direction of the Dean of the School of Health Sciences, is responsible for the administrative oversight of the Master of Physician Assistant (PA) program. The Program Director provides leadership in the systematic delivery of a relevancy and high-quality curriculum and management of academic policies, resources, and personnel to support strong student outcomes and achievement, faculty mentorship, recognition of the Alliant International University/School of Health Sciences brand, and high levels of faculty and student morale and satisfaction. The Program Director is an integral part of the School of Health Science leadership team and works to foster a quality learning community. The position requires knowledge of the degree and evidenced-based PA practice.

Responsibilities include program planning, development, organization, and management; continuous programmatic review and analysis; fiscal management of the program; faculty recruitment, retention, and development; supervision of the medical director, faculty, and program personnel; student success and the overall quality of the academic program. The Program Director also completes ARC-PA required documents and ensures adherence to the ARC-PA standards and ARC-PA policies.

Salary: $130,000 - $150,000 (DOE)

Minimum Requirements:



Education: Master’s degree in physician assistant studies; Doctoral degree preferred.

Experience:
  • Professional practice as a Physician Assistant for at least three (3) years;
  • Full-time higher education experience for at least three ( 3) years;
  • Experience and evidence of successful leadership in higher education and management roles;
  • Familiarity with physician assistant program director responsibilities required by ARC-PA and the demands of maintaining ARC-PA accreditation;
  • Substantial experience as a faculty member and academic administrator;
  • Evidence of effective strategic planning and implementation experience;
  • Experience in facilitating learning;
  • A record of scholarship productivity;
  • Financial management and budgeting experience.
Licensure, Certifications, etc.: Current National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) certification and eligible for physician assistant license in the State of Arizona.

  • Knowledge of current best practices for physician assistants;
  • Knowledge of graduate education and training in physician assistant science as well as current developments, trends, and complexities within the healthcare industry;
  • Experience or familiarity with WASC Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), Accreditation Review Commission on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) standards, policies and procedures;
  • Experience with online and hybrid program delivery and online learning in the health professions.
  • Strong and effective oral and written communication skills with ability to articulate University’s and School’s mission and strategic goals and objectives;
  • Understanding of the principles and practices of policy and strategic development, implementation, and evaluation.
Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Academic Responsibilities: Provide oversight of all administrative aspects of the Master’s of Physician Assistant program including:
    • Oversight of academic curriculum.
    • Oversight of program efforts to provide a curriculum that incorporate the skills and training to address the needs of diverse populations in the community.
    • Oversight of program efforts to support academic success for students from a diverse set of backgrounds and experiences.
    • Oversight of school-wide policy and procedures including admissions, curriculum, institutional aid, grading, etc.
    • Compliance with WSCUC guidelines and regulations.
    • Compliance with ARC-PA and other requisite specialty accreditation guidelines.
    • Assessment of educational effectiveness.
    • Management of the program budget.
  • Governance and Planning:
    • Provide leadership regarding the strategic direction of the PA program;
    • Participate in university governance and planning by serving on assigned University committees;
    • Develop a growth strategy for the program that is synergistically related to and supportive of the strategic operating goals and objectives of the School of Health Sciences and its mission, including close collaboration with colleagues from across the University.
  • Academic Leadership and Organizational Administration Experience: Provide academic and organizational leadership, with emphasis on facilitating faculty engagement in:
    • Upholding the mission of School of Health Sciences and PA program as major academic entities of Alliant International University, a professional practice university;
    • Assuring the highest quality of education and training for students in the PA program through active support of faculty in their various activities and overall performance;
    • Assuring compliance with, even exceeding, relevant certification and accreditation requirements and standards;
    • Managing and enhancing the resources requisite to the delivery of the PA program;
    • Developing strategic planning that advances growth of the PA program; and
    • Designing innovative curricula, in conjunction with the faculty, to address the changing demands of the profession and the environment in which it operates, including expansion of delivery models and extension into new market segments.
    • In partnership with faculty, develop student learning outcomes, and direct and indirect measures to assess and improve the quality of academic programs. Establish architecture for outcomes assessments and evaluation rubrics. Collaborate with other colleges to create standards for gathering and interpreting assessment data.
  • In partnership with faculty, develop student learning outcomes, and direct and indirect measures to assess and improve the quality of academic programs.
  • Ensure a positive student culture that integrates rigorous individual and collaborative academic achievement and professional support.
  • Facilitate interdisciplinary and interdepartmental collaboration throughout the Alliant International University system.
  • Oversee Alumni development.
  • Foster marketing and public relations to promote the PA program including external liaison between the School of Health Sciences-Alliant International University and appropriate licensing and accreditation entities.
Perform other related tasks, duties and responsibilities as required, assigned, or directed.

Contact Reponsibility:



Internal: Interacts with supervisor to receive direction and instructions and/or review of work results. This position with work closely with colleagues in multiple departments (i.e. Admissions, Student Advising, Registrar, etc.) to support both students and colleagues in achieving student success and Department goals.

External: Interacts with prospective students, to provide advice and support. Interacts with accrediting and regulatory agencies as required.
