Job Summary/Basic Function

The Financial Aid Officer has the responsibility of the efficient and compliant delivery Title IV programs to students and their families. The primary responsibility of this position is the review and completion of Title IV verification in a timely fashion abiding by all federal regulations ensuring that initial, federal student aid eligibility criteria are met. This individual is charged with staying abreast of changes to the federal and state regulations to ensure compliance. Responsibilities of the Student Financial Aid Officer includes determining eligibility and awarding student financial aid for both internal and external programs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Administers the review and completion of Title IV verification.
  • Manage the document tracking process in order to communicate document needs to applicants.
  • Develop a comprehensive understanding of the verification process, its purpose and practicality. As well as the flow between Banner and the US Department of Education processing centers. Apply thorough interpretation of federal and state regulations and general policies relating to financial aid especially verification to ensure university compliance.
  • Analyzes and resolve conflicting information with students, parents and university departments in the processing of student financial aid.
  • Adhere to policy and procedure manual to ensure compliance designed for error free annual audits.
  • Provides financial aid advising to current and prospective students and their parents, including the resolution of financial aid concerns within federal, state, local and institutional guidelines.
  • Provides customer service during non-peak verification season.
  • Conducts financial aid orientations, workshops and other outreach activities as needed.
  • Assists in coordinating loan process to ensure compliance.
  • Assists in the monitoring of Standards of Academic Progress ( SAP ) to ensure compliance.
  • Ability to travel for required conferences and trainings, including overnight.
  • Provides back-up to other staff members as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree.
  • Financial Aid experience.
  • Substantial time management skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
  • Knowledge of a resource planning system
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and with a diverse group of people.
  • Ability to collaborate and work in a team environment
