Major Duties
Under general supervision of the Department Chair for Recreation and Tourism Management (RTM), the Program Coordinator, RTM Outdoor Centers oversees the facilities, personnel, equipment, marketing, and operations of the CSUN Aquatic Center, and the Center for Recreation and Tourism's Ropes/Challenge Course, which includes overseeing and leading participants during operational activities, programs, and projects. The incumbent conducts trainings and workshops in classroom and outdoor environments, oversees staff, interns, and volunteers, generates client leads, secures client contracts, and schedules client groups.
- Leads low and high element Ropes Course events for groups of
varying numbers, and leads boating and water safety workshops in
indoor, waterfront, and on-water environments.
- Develops and deploys strategic marketing plans, develops and
disseminates marketing collateral both printed and online, and
conducts personal promotions to prospective customers.
- Completes budgeting, invoicing, and financial reporting tasks,
conducts general safety and risk management protocols, and conducts
program and client assessments and evaluations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Equivalent to graduation from an accredited four-year college
or university in a job-related field. Master's degree and education
in Recreation Management preferred.
- Equivalent to three (3) years of full-time, progressively
responsible technical, analytical, or administrative
experience.
- Additional experience in job-related field may be substituted
for up to two (2) years of the required education, on a year for
year basis.
- Experience overseeing high ropes course and/or boating and
water safety activities, programs and/or projects including
operations, maintenance, and staff/participant supervision highly
preferred. Experience in a leadership role, and in generating
client leads and securing client sales highly preferred.
- Required certifications: Title 22 First Aid and
CPR-Professional rescuer (or equivalent); Lifeguard training; CA
Boater Card (or ability to acquire within 1 month of employment);
CA For-Hire Vessel Operator License (or ability to acquire within 3
month of employment); Association of Challenge Course Technology
(ACCT) Level II (or equivalent).
Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities
- Working knowledge of general practices, program, and/or
administrative specialty. Working knowledge of operational analysis
and techniques.
- Thorough knowledge of budgets, policies, procedures, and
outside regulations pertaining to recreational facilities,
personnel, equipment, marketing, and operations.
- Ability and specialized skills to expertly investigate and
analyze problems with a broad administrative impact and
implications. Ability to: oversee and/or train others and provide
lead work direction; interpret, and apply a wide variety of
policies and procedures to develop conclusions and make
recommendations; compile, write and present reports related to
program or administrative specialty; and communicate clearly and
effectively both orally and in writing; create a positive,
supportive, and experiential learning environment while teaching a
variety of topics
- Ability to demonstrate: Strong attention to detail regarding
equipment organization and care; good judgment, particularly
regarding participant safety and wellbeing; professional and calm
demeanor, particularly during emergency/medical response or rescue
situations; highly effective verbal and written communication
skills as applicable to a broad range of individuals from varied
backgrounds; a well-organized, self-motivated, enthusiastic, and
mature attitude; a mind for client service; an entrepreneurial
spirit.
Pay, Benefits, & Work Schedule
- The university offers an excellent benefits package, including
but not limited to: medical, dental, vision, retirement &
savings, tuition waiver and more.
- Classification/grade: 1038 / AA/S / 2
- The anticipated HIRING RANGE: $4170 - $5833 per month,
dependent upon qualifications and experience. The salary range for
this classification is: $4170 - $7545 per month.
- HOURS: Full Time; 40 hours per week; Monday through Friday; may
include evenings and weekends.
- TEMP: This is a Temporary-renewable position, end date to be
determined.
- The position is currently hybrid (4 days in office, 1 day
remote); however, this is subject to change based on student and/or
operational needs.
