PURPOSE
Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, a Division 1 member of the NCAA and the Southland Conference, is seeking applicants for the vacant Spirit Coordinator Position. This position is part-time and reports to the Associate Athletic Director for Marketing and Development. The Spirit Coordinator is responsible for managing all aspects of the Islanders Spirit Program and Mascot (Izzy the Islander).


RESPONSIBILITIES

• Supervise, train and instruct the spirit program and mascot to include proper training and performances of squad at all practices, athletics events, post season contests and special events.
  
• Recruiting quality students who meet admission requirements and have the potential to graduate.
  
• Oversight of the selection process for team membership while making scholarship recommendations to supervisor for distribution.
  
• Maintaining the equipment and uniform inventory while coordinating with supervisor on purchases for the team.
  
• Responsible for supervising volunteer assistant coaches.
  
• Development, utilization and management of the spirit program budget.
  
• Provide leadership and guidance in the development of the students.
  
• Managing all spirit squad and mascot appearances both on-campus and within the community.
  
• Collaborating with the Athletics Marketing Team, Islanders Pep Band and Event Staff on game day preparation and special events.
  
• Coordinate practice schedule with athletics facility department.
  
• Assist with the implementation and coordination of the Islander Student Section.
  
• Organizing fundraising Initiatives for the Spirit Program.
  
• Maintaining proper safety and certification under national rules and guidelines.
  
• Perform other duties as assigned.
  

WHAT YOU WILL NEED

• Bachelor's Degree
  
• Three to Five (3-5) years of experience in dance team and/or cheerleading instruction.
  
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and written skills.
  
• Ability to recruit, supervise and evaluate students.
  
• Ability to work nights and weekends, limited travel involved.
  

NOTE: This is a part-time position with 19 hours scheduled per week.
