Position Summary:
The Wayne D. McMurray School of Humanities and Social Sciences at Monmouth University seeks applications for a full-time, non-tenure track Lecturer position with a focus on legal studies, subject to budget allocation. The incumbent will also be expected to advise students in the university's pre-law concentration.The Department of Political Science and Sociology, found within the School of Humanities and Social Sciences, is focused on the cultivation of creating global citizens through the promotion of International Relations, American Politics, Comparative Politics, and Law. Its students are active learners who routinely participate in Debate Tournaments and Model UN Conferences. The department is comprised of active teacher-scholars who regularly collaborate and publish in their respective subfields of political science and sociology.Responsibilities include teaching 12 credits per semester in American politics and law and enthusiastically advising the pre-law club and students with an interest in pursuing law school. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to lead student groups such as Moot Court and Mock Trial. The successful candidate will also demonstrate active interest in mentoring and inspiring students who are traditionally underrepresented in the field of law and in legal careers. Finally, it is expected the candidate will perform service on departmental and university committees not restricted to tenured or tenure-track faculty and maintain disciplinary currency commensurate with their teaching responsibilities.
The search will remain open until the position is filled, but applications received by Monday, March 26, 2023 will receive fullest consideration. The anticipated start date is September 1, 2023.

  • Terminal degree (PhD or JD) in legal studies, law, American politics, or related field or ABD candidates may be considered with degree completion expected by date of employment or third year law school students, in good standing, with degree expected by date of employment
  • Ability to teach American law and Political Science to undergraduate students
  • A demonstrated commitment to diversity





Preferred Qualifications:
  • Strong knowledge of the areas of American law
  • College-level teaching experience in law and American politics
  • College-level advising experience for students interested in careers in the law
