Job Summary
The Director, Academic Budget and Personnel for Academic Affairs will be responsible for the preparation of annual and/or operating budgets, budget revisions, and support schedules and documents to include the analysis, interpretation, and development of budgetary data for the Academic Affairs Division.
Qualifications
Education
- Bachelor’s degree with an emphasis in accounting, finance, or other related field;
- In lieu of Bachelor’s degree; must have an Associates degree and a minimum of 2 years experience with budgets
Experience
- Two years successful experience in financial analysis
- Demonstrated knowledge of nonprofit accounting principles and practices
- Experience with Ellucian Banner software
- Knowledge of higher education financial systems and issues
Essential Job Functions
- Manages the fiscal operations of the Academic Affairs Division including coordinating, planning and developing program budgets,
- Improve financial status by analyzing results; monitoring variances; identifying trends; recommending actions to management,
- Prepare reports and projections based on analysis which will be used to guide and influence long term and strategic decision making; prepare monthly/quarterly financial reports,
- Recommend actions and creative alternatives by analyzing and interpreting data and making comparative analyses; studying proposed changes,
- Directs the preparation of fiscal documents for submission to the Budget Office,
- Provides monthly, quarterly and year-end financial reports to division Directors and Provost,
- Evaluate internal fiscal needs and develop, implement, and maintain an efficient, effective budget model for Academic Affairs,
- Works closely with Academic Affairs Leadership Team in preparing budget projections and analyses for decision making and strategic planning,
- Prepares summer pay spreadsheet for faculty to include payment for courses and grant work,
- Prepares part-time faculty and full-time faculty overload pay spreadsheets,
- Prepares and maintains faculty salary spreadsheet,
- Maintains vacant position updates and,
- Other related duties as assigned
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Expertise with Microsoft Excel and other financial modeling software
- Highest ethical standards and a commitment to proper stewardship of institutional resources
- Exceptional analytical skills with the ability to interpret data and identify trends; strong attention to detail
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, and ability to communicate well with all levels of management and staff and interact effectively with a variety of departments
- An ability to work effectively in a diverse work environment
