Position Summary
SUNY Cortland’s director of campus event management will lead and review the services and operations associated with planning and hosting events at the university. This newly created position will work with both campus constituents and external clients from initial inquiry through event execution, providing guidance and exceptional customer service. The director will develop a marketing plan to promote university facilities to external clients and manage contracts for all events hosted at SUNY Cortland. This position will communicate office policy and procedures as well as lead partnerships with university leadership, faculty, students and external clients. Reporting to the vice president for finance and management, this role will supervise three event managers, two venue coordinators, one event media specialist and an office assistant. The Campus Event Management Office will lead high-level events including Commencement, Honors Convocation and others requested by the President’s Office.

Major Responsibilities
- Lead the day-to-day operations of the Campus Event Management Office, which includes planning, communicating and assessing the services associated with all events.
- Manage revocable permits, billing and scheduling of all campus facilities not associated with the university’s academic course schedule.
- Coordinate the maintenance schedule in conjunction with Facilities Operations Services staff for all facilities assigned to the office.
- Supervise the seven-person office staff, volunteers, subcontractors and vendors required to execute all aspects of scheduled events.
- Work with university partners to develop a marketing plan in an effort to promote SUNY Cortland facilities to external clients.
- Manage the scheduling software associated with event management.
- Manage the office budget and all facilities assigned to the Campus Event Management Office
- Promote SUNY Cortland facilities to external organizations.
The director will report directly to the university’s vice president for finance and management. This position will supervise three event coordinators, two venue coordinators, an event media specialist and a support staff member.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- Minimum of five years’ experience planning events
- Willingness and ability to work outside of standard university hours to support operational needs
- Valid driver’s license
- Master’s degree
- SUNY experience
- Experience planning events in higher education
- Event marketing experience
- Demonstrated customer service experience
- Experience supervising staff and students
- Experience with technology related to scheduling systems, communication or customer relationship management ( CRM )
- Professional experiencing managing social media
