Who We Are

The Cognitive Neuroscience of Language Lab investigates the cognitive and neural mechanisms that allow humans to understand language. Communicating with human language is a signature capacity of our species and debilitating when disordered during development or following brain damage. Although neurologically healthy humans understand the words and sentences of their native language with an automatic ease, this ease belies complex processes that allow understanding to occur. We use neurophysiological and behavioral experimental techniques to study these processes, with the aims of advancing basic science and guiding treatments for disordered language and reading.

What Your Key Responsibilities Will Be

The primary role of this position is to help conduct electroencephalogram (EEG) and behavioral experiments with human research participants. This activity will include:
  • Operating neurophysiological recording equipment to measure the brain’s electrical activity in human participants.
  • Using software (Matlab, R) to analyze neurophysiological data.
  • Scheduling and interacting with human subjects.
  • Ordering lab supplies for research studies when needed.
  • Helping to create experimental stimuli for psychological experiments.
  • Working as part of a team with other lab members, including supervision and scheduling activities.
  • Attending lab meetings and managing lab documentation.
  • Contribute to the theoretical and empirical mission of the lab team.
