Job Summary

The incumbent will provide senior-level graphic design in the Division of Marketing and Communication to enhance marketing, advancement, student recruitment, alumni relations, and campus activities of the institution by producing publications and original artwork in a timely manner, adhering to established brand and graphic standards, in support of the University’s internal and external marketing efforts.
The incumbent will develop leading digital and print design for the University community including but not limited to brochures, publications, advertisements, posters, postcards, newsletters, invitations, flyers, PowerPoint templates, and stationary systems; takes projects from the initial concept stage and coordinates steps through the completion of the projects.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Knowledge of web production and the capabilities within digital channels

  • High level of experience in Adobe Creative Cloud: InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
  • Keen attention to visual details
  • Ability to combine various colors, fonts and layouts

  • Ability to take projects from start to finish with minimal supervision
  • Ability to adapt and learn quickly
  • Ability to apply style guides creatively while upholding brand identity for Alcorn State University

  • Ability to execute the institution’s creative strategy.
  • Ability to plan, coordinate and direct graphic art communication projects and handle multiple priorities
  • Ability to work cooperatively with a diverse campus community.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Experience designing for ADA accessibility requirements preferred.
  • Experience in a higher education environment or marketing/agency is preferred.
Essential Job Functions
  • Takes a leadership role in conceptualizing and designing the University’s highly visible marketing and communication initiatives.
  • Organizes, creates, designs, and executes a variety of visually compelling print and digital projects including viewbooks, brochures, illustrations, catalogs, logos, booklets, flyers, original designs, newsletters, etc.
  • Receives incoming projects; schedules and assigns projects to designers and student artists/design interns based on project type and individual designer strengths and skills
  • Provides experienced guidance and feedback to designers to ensure the highest possible quality product and creative/artistic standards are met.
  • Prepares bid specifications and quote requests for various printed pieces and publications
  • Responsible for proofreading and design review of creative projects to ensure quality design and accuracy that meets the University’s brand and style guidelines.
  • Meet and consult with the campus and external personnel as needed to coordinate the production of graphic/digital materials from concept to delivery consistent with the university’s established brand and graphic identity standards.
  • Work independently on assigned projects or as a member of a project team.
  • Work on strategic projects related to developing marketing and communication themes and templates.
  • Provide creative, artistic, and lead work direction to others on proper graphic concepts, techniques, and processes to produce art, web, and other multimedia materials.
  • Help steward the University’s visual identity system and monitor its usage on publications and promotional items produced throughout the campus as needed.
  • Provide requested images and artwork as needed for all print/digital needs.
  • Maintain positive working relationships with faculty, staff, students, and other constituents.
  • Track and communicate job progress in production management software and meet production schedules and deadlines.
  • Oversee and maintain digital archives and image resource files.
  • Stays abreast of new techniques related to print and digital design.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree or other equivalent education in Fine Arts, Graphic Design, or related field;
  • Five (5) years of related professional or technical experience as a graphic designer and Web designer, or equivalent combination of education and experience
