Position Announcement

The Department of Nursing at Utah Tech University (UT) in St. George, Utah, invites applications for a full-time, professional-track Instructor of the Practice position starting Fall Semester 2023. This position will teach lecture, laboratory, and clinical courses connected to our Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) program and assist the CNA Program Coordinator in assessing and maintaining UNAR requirements for program continuation.

The goal of the Nursing Assistant program is to provide an educational experience leading to certification for those who would like to work as a Certified Nursing Assistant. The Nursing Department seeks to help students achieve their academic, career, and life goals, including those related to providing safe, evidence-based patient-centered care to all.

  • Teach 30 credits over a broad spectrum of undergraduate lecture, laboratory, and/or nursing assistant courses per academic year. May have additional teaching assignments in AASN courses.
  • Assist Program Coordinator in program management, including planning, reviewing, and evaluating all facets of clinical learning experiences, identifying clinical sites, ensuring clinical affiliation agreements are current, and liaising with clinical staff.
  • Work with the department chair and other nursing department faculty in designing curriculum/courses with measurable objectives and learning outcomes, preparation of class outcomes and schedules, and development and continued assessment of the nursing assistant program. Ensure the program is following all federal, state, and UNAR rules, regulations, policies and procedures.
  • Assist in ongoing efforts of all aspects of nursing program accreditation, including self-report, on-site visits, follow-up, and ongoing evaluation. Program outcomes re evaluated through the annual UT program assessment process and UNAR self-evaluation review every two years.
  • Facilitate hiring of program part-time instructors; supervise and evaluate classroom, lab, and clinical part-time instructors and ensure all licensed personnel are current in licensure, background checks, etc.
  • Hold regular office hours as outlined in academic policy. Attend department meetings, advise on student assessment, and vote on department issues (as appropriate).
  • Improve professionally and maintain currency in the field.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Bachelor’s degree with a major in Nursing (BSN) required; Masters of Science degree in Nursing (MSN) preferred.
  • Two (2) years of Nursing Experience required, with at least one year caring for the elderly or chronically ill of any age.
  • Must hold current Registered Nurse License for the State of Utah or eligibility to gain Utah Licensure by Interstate Compact.
  • Must be willing to complete a UNAR approved “Train the Trainer” type program.
  • Teaching experience in lecture, laboratory, and/or clinical nursing assistant courses in a college setting, dealing with diverse student populations, required.
  • Knowledge of subject matter, appropriate course content, current trends and methodologies in education and nursing.
  • Knowledge of computer-based technology as used in clinical and educational environments, including online learning, mobile devices, and high-fidelity simulation.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to communicate clearly with students, staff, and colleagues, both orally and in writing.
  • Commitment to work collaboratively with community health care providers.
  • Ability to work well with other faculty, staff, and students.
  • Good supervisory skills in directing and mentoring part-time instructors preferred.
Supplemental Information

POSITION DETAILS, COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS: Full-time (9-month) professional-track faculty position. Faculty service begins August 2023, with pay and benefits starting July/August 2023. Annual salary of $53,000 - $58,850 depending on qualifications & experience, with additional compensation available for optional summer/overload teaching.
