The Opportunity:

The College of Aviation at the Prescott, Arizona, campus of Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University invites applications for a visiting Instructor/Assistant Professor position in meteorology commencing August, 2023, in support of our B. S. degrees in Aeronautical Science, Applied Meteorology, Aeronautics, Unmanned Aircraft Systems and Air Traffic Management.

Candidates with prior teaching experience and a broad background in both meteorology and aviation are invited to apply. The curriculum for the degree programs in the College of Aviation are found at https://catalog.erau.edu/prescott/aviation/ . The primary teaching responsibilities will be to instruct meteorology and Geographical Information Systems classes in support of our large and growing aviation programs, especially WX 203L, WX 201 and WX 301 (see https://catalog.erau.edu/prescott/undergraduate-courses/wx/ ), GEO 210 and GEO 310 (see https://catalog.erau.edu/prescott/aviation/bachelors/unmanned-aircraft-systems/#gisandremotesensingcertificatetext ). In teaching these classes, the candidate must be able to inspire students in the science of meteorology. There may be opportunity to teach additional classes in the Applied Meteorology Minor, depending on interest and qualifications. The successful candidate must also share the College’s commitment to mentoring students on course options and career pursuits, as well as service on university committees and in the wider community.

This is a nine-month position with the possibility of summer teaching for additional pay. Applicants should provide comprehensive statements on their teaching background and philosophy, a curriculum vitae, and the names and contact information of three professional references familiar with their teaching. The position will remain open until filled.

Qualifications

A Master’s degree in meteorology or the atmospheric sciences, or equivalent experience, is required.

Applicants must be able to evidence a track record of quality teaching by means of student evaluations and peer classroom evaluations. We especially encourage applications from candidates with experience in aviation or aviation weather forecasting. Experience with Geographic Information Systems (GIS) is a plus as there may be opportunities to also teach GIS classes.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach the equivalent of four to five 3-credit hour courses per semester at the undergraduate level and to serve on university committees.
