American Public Education, Inc.
The Senior Accountant provides support to accounting team through completing and reviewing a variety of accounting tasks to include, but not limited to general ledger accountability, financial reporting, financial analysis and other special projects as assigned.
Responsibilities:
- Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements, reports and records by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information.
- Support month-end and year-end close processes.
- Analyze financial information and summarize results.
- Review bank statements and complete reconciliations.
- Research and reconcile various accounts and discrepancies.
- Complete various monthly and quarterly work-papers for related party transaction shared services allocations, and others as assigned.
- Provide back up support to the staff accountants.
- Review work papers assigned by the Accounting Manager.
- Interacts with all Education Unit teams, at all levels as required, to meet strategic objectives.
- Stays abreast of regulatory changes within Finance and Accounting.
- Works with internal and external auditors as needed.
- Completes special projects as assigned.
Required Skills
- Ability to interact with staff in a positive and professional manner.
- Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
- Ability to meet communicated schedules and deadlines.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Ability to creatively solve problems in a changing environment.
- Advanced skills with MS Office Suite.
- Ability to work as a team player with a positive attitude.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required.
- CPA Certification preferred.
- Minimum 4 years accounting experience.
- Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
