Senior Accountant
American Public Education, Inc.

The Senior Accountant provides support to accounting team through completing and reviewing a variety of accounting tasks to include, but not limited to general ledger accountability, financial reporting, financial analysis and other special projects as assigned.

Responsibilities:

• Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements, reports and records by collecting, analyzing and summarizing account information.
• Support month-end and year-end close processes.
• Analyze financial information and summarize results.
• Review bank statements and complete reconciliations.
• Research and reconcile various accounts and discrepancies.
• Complete various monthly and quarterly work-papers for related party transaction shared services allocations, and others as assigned.
• Provide back up support to the staff accountants.
• Review work papers assigned by the Accounting Manager.
• Interacts with all Education Unit teams, at all levels as required, to meet strategic objectives.
• Stays abreast of regulatory changes within Finance and Accounting.
• Works with internal and external auditors as needed.
• Completes special projects as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution required.
• CPA Certification preferred.
• Minimum 4 years accounting experience.
• Candidate must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
