American Museum of Natural History

Director of Compliance

New York, NY

The American Museum of Natural History (the Museum or AMNH), one of the world’s preeminent scientific and cultural institutions, seeks a proactive, collaborative, and process-driven leader to be its inaugural Director of Compliance (or the Director). The Director is tasked with driving institution-wide compliance initiatives and implementing strategies with the goals of meeting ongoing and evolving regulatory compliance obligations and supporting operational efficiency and effectiveness.

Reporting to the Senior Vice President and General Counsel, the Director of Compliance will provide leadership, direction, and oversight on all aspects of compliance, collaborating closely with Museum leadership. The Director will be expected to develop an institution-wide compliance program, working closely with internal stakeholders and assessing areas of compliance and risk in order to achieve and maintain compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations, and internal institutional policies.

The successful candidate will have an understanding of relevant compliance best practices and regulations, particularly regarding the areas of scientific research, international activities, state reporting obligations, and federal grant compliance. They should be able to identify, implement, and/or improve on required policies and procedures. This role is an incredible opportunity to help the Museum further its mission to discover, interpret, and disseminate—through scientific research and education—knowledge about human cultures, the natural world, and the universe.

Compensation for this role is set between $150 – 175K.

All inquiries, nominations, and applications should be directed in confidence to the Isaacson, Miller website. Interested candidates should include a CV/resume and a two-to-three-page letter of interest responding to the opportunities and challenges outlined in the full position profile.

Rebecca Kennedy is leading this search with Angelo Alexander and Cortnee Bollard.
