Position Summary

This position supports the International Security and Nonproliferation Initiative at the Center for International Trade and Security ( CITS ) within the School of Public and International Affairs. CITS advises policymakers and trains personnel around the world in critical areas of national and international security, while serving as a hub of research, teaching, and outreach. This position supports the development and implementation of grants, contracts and/or cooperative agreements in areas such as nuclear security, nonproliferation, and strategic trade. The position assists the Center in cultivating relationships with external funders, including relevant US government entities, private foundations, NGOs, and companies. The position is considered part of the overall CITS team and may be called on to develop subject matter reports and articles, assist in research activities and/or provide teaching/student support. This is a fiscal year (12 month) position.

  • Knowledge of contemporary nuclear security, energy security, nonproliferation and/or strategic trade issues and policies.
  • Ability to manage teams of professionals – both domestic and international – to implement projects.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, and attention to detail.
  • Sound judgment, discretion, and proven efficiency in handling complex and confidential issues.
  • Ability to work with limited information and produce results for the execution of events.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office application skills.
  • Ability and willingness to travel, both domestically and internationally, approximately 10-15% of time.
  • Ability and willingness to teach courses in area of expertise is preferred.

Business Development
  • Assist the Director and staff to proactively identify and secure new sponsored program, contract, and grant opportunities.
  • Design and submit grant and contract proposals related to nuclear security, energy security, nonproliferation, and/or strategic trade management.
  • Coordinate teams of UGA faculty, staff, CITS Fellows and/or non- UGA professionals to support grant and contract proposals.

Grant and Contract Implementation
  • Serve as PI on sponsored grants and contracts in relevant subject areas.
  • Maintain working knowledge of budgets during project execution and evolution; understand and effectively implement allowable costs.
  • Coordinate teams of UGA faculty, staff, CITS Fellows and/or non- UGA professionals to develop and implement grant and contract-related output, such as written analysis and training events and materials.
  • Assist with completion and submission of documentation to sponsors for contract clarification or amendments, including extension, budget modifications, contractual problems, and general reporting requirements.
  • Serve as liaison for sponsored programs, contracts, and grants with sponsors and external consultants.

  • Collaborate with CITS faculty and staff to publish articles, op-eds, blog posts, chapters and/or books in relevant areas.
  • Teach courses in nuclear security/nonproliferation if desired.
  • Provide expertise to undergraduate and graduate courses as guest lecturer.
  • Provide expertise and guidance to students as a professional mentor.
  • Support and participate in student experiential learning opportunities.
  • Support and participate in public outreach activities of center.
  • Assist Center Director and staff in fundraising activities.
