Applications are sought for Ad Astra Fellows within the UCD School of English, Drama and Film.

UCD School of English, Drama and Film is internationally renowned for our research and teaching of the interpretation and practice of literary, film, media, and performance cultures. The School plays key roles in leading collaborations with major cultural, creative and educational institutions, fostering the highest standards of creative and performance practice nationally and internationally, and developing innovative interdisciplinary research and teaching in major fields such as cultural analytics, environmental humanities, gender and sexuality studies, medical humanities, and new media studies. The School ranks in the Top 50 in the QS World Subject rankings, and is home to major research projects funded by the European Research Council, Irish Research Council, Wellcome Trust, and others.

The School welcomes applications in any of our constituent subjects – Creative Writing, Drama, English, and Film and Media. We are especially interested in applications from candidates who can diversify the geographical and historical range of our subjects, and whose research matches most closely with one or more of the following strategic priority areas: practice-led research; film and media history; cultural analytics; screenwriting; creative non-fiction; drama and performance.

The School is under-represented in the following geographical areas of expertise: Africa, Asia-Pacific, Caribbean, South Asia, Middle East, and Latin America. Candidates with geographical expertise in these areas across the range of our subjects are particularly encouraged. Applications would be particularly encouraged also from earlier periods of the historical range of our subjects. Candidates should also seek to demonstrate awareness of the research funding landscape as it pertains to their areas of expertise, and to show how they can provide leadership to help the School grow new areas of research and teaching.
