Duties and Responsibilities

Loyola University Chicago ( LUC ), College of Arts and Sciences, Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time postdoctoral associate, with expertise in plant ecology/evolution and/or plant-microbe interactions. The position is for one year with the possibility of renewal for an additional year based on performance. For more information about the department visit www.luc.edu/biology .

Located on Chicago’s vibrantly multicultural North Side, LUC is committed to creating an inclusive, responsive community of faculty, students, and staff. As an urban-based Department of Biology dedicated to mentoring a diverse student body, many of whom come from under-represented and under-served populations, we especially encourage applications from candidates from under-represented groups. We also encourage applications from candidates committed to interdisciplinarity (i.e., working with colleagues across different subfields and disciplines). This search is part of a university-wide, multiyear hiring initiative designed to hire outstanding researchers and teachers who are reflective of our diverse student body. Of special interest are candidates who can further the University’s efforts to foster diversity, equity, and inclusion.

The postdoc will work in Dr. Michael Grillo’s plant evolutionary genetics lab. The goal of this research project is to understand how plant-microbe and plant-microbiome interactions may impact plant distributions and how this information can be applied to enhance native plant restoration. The post-doctoral fellow will be responsible for designing and implementing greenhouse and field experiments, collecting empirical data, conducting statistical analyses, manuscript preparation, and mentoring of undergraduate students in research. This position provides opportunities for post-doctoral fellows to attend conferences and gain teaching experience in the Department of Biology. Strong candidates should have a Ph.D. in a relevant field, with expertise in statistical and analytical methods in ecology and evolution. The position is for one year with the possibility of renewal for additional years based on performance.
