Description
Responsibilities:

  • Supervise professional staff members within accounting and student accounts staff

  • Serve as a working manager

  • Assist the Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration with the management and oversight of accounting operations, Accounts Payable, cash management, payroll, and student billing/receivables

  • Oversee the training and development of the finance staff, delegate duties and authority to meet departmental needs and organizational goals.

  • Serve as the Business Office subject-matter-expert for the finance module of the ERP system.

  • Serve as the primary external audit liaison between the Business Office and external auditors.

  • Administer the accounting of the University's endowment, annuity, and other restricted funds

  • Accountable for ensuring that policies and procedures (internal controls) are in place to provide reasonable assurance that company assets are protected

  • Assist with preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements including all necessary schedules, reconciliations and allocations

  • Administer and assist with management of accounting and finance requirements for all federal, state, and private grants, including coordinating required reconciliation, reporting and draws

  • Work with the finance team to prepare workpapers for various audit and compliance requirements

  • Supervise the completion of Federal and State tax reporting requirements

  • Oversee the operation and accounting for federal and private loan funds

  • Monitor and analyze the collection of University receivables

  • Research and respond to inquiries from faculty/staff regarding financial operations, policies, procedures, and reporting

  • Collaborate with various University functions such as Student Organizations, Athletics and Academic areas to ensure that accounting records properly reflect new programs and initiatives

  • Assist in establishing the annual budget for the Business Office and the University

  • Monitor the annual budget and collaborate with departments to identify budget trends

  • Complete surveys and reporting of financial information to outside agencies and governmental bodies

  • Understand and facilitate usage of computer systems used in financial operations including software upgrades, conversions, programming enhancements and table maintenance

  • Work with ITS personnel in developing and enhancing financial operations computer systems

  • Perform in place of the Associate Vice President for Finance and Administration in their absence.

  • Perform other duties as assigned

    Qualifications:

    Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related business field required; masters degree preferred

  • Current CPA licensure preferred

  • 5 years of progressively increasing responsibility in the accounting field

  • Knowledge of nonprofit entity accounting desired

    Technology Skills:

  • Proficient with computerized software systems and databases

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite

  • Experience with higher-education student and financial management systems is preferred

    Human Relation Skills:

  • Ability to work effectively with people regardless of their age, gender, race, sexual orientation, ethnicity, religion, ability, socio-economic background, or job type.

  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills and a customer service mindset

  • Effective telephone etiquette, verbal and written communication skills
