The Department of Communication at the University of North Alabama invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor or Visiting Lecturer position in Mass Communication – Journalism & Digital Media Production, beginning Fall 2023. A search for a regular position will occur in the next academic year and the selected candidate for this visiting position will eligible to apply for the regular position. Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the position has been filled.

Minimum qualifications for this position include: an earned doctorate in journalism, mass communication, or a closely-related field is required for appointment to the Visiting Assistant Professor position; a master’s degree and significant professional experience is required for appointment to the Visiting Lecturer position. Standard teaching loads for Assistant Professors are 12-credit hours per semester and 15-credit hours for Lecturers. Experience in online teaching or a willingness to learn how to develop and teach online courses is required.  Priority will be given to candidates who have professional experience in journalism (e.g., print, digital, audio, or video journalism). Primary academic instruction will focus on teaching students the fundamentals of journalistic writing, ethics, production, and professional practices. Courses may include copy editing, feature writing, advanced reporting, media writing, and other communication courses as determined.
