Position Summary

The primary role for the Admissions Counselor is to oversee music admissions, design, coordinate and implement recruiting plans. This person will also coordinate recruiting fairs, prepare orientation materials, and handle public relations/alumni outreach in coordination with the CVPA Director of Marketing and Communication.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Duties include, but not are limited to the following:
  • Responsible for music specific recruiting campaigns in the CRM system ( SLATE ), manages application review and status in PeopleSoft/OnBase and serves as the liaison to the Associate Director of CRM .
  • Responsible for coordinating auditions for the School of Music in regard to scheduling, preparation, assisting faculty and prospective students and their families, and making final admissions decisions.
  • Coordinates student and family visits to the School of Music.
  • Responsible for coordinating and attending recruiting fairs, which include Midwest Clinic, Illinois Music Educators Conference, and others. Assists in preparation of all materials for these fairs and coordinates and hosts the annual alumni reception with the IMEC convention.
  • Responsible for local high school visits throughout the year as requested.
  • Prepares orientation materials, and digital toolkits for NIU’s summer orientation of new undergraduate students
  • In consultation with the CVPA Director of Marketing and Communication, manages the content of the School of Music website, verifies Web 2.0 alignment, maintains School of Music social media sites with concert listings, faculty, current student, and alumni news.

  • Some travel may be required
