Job Description:

This is a full-time 11-month tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant Librarian. The eleven months need not be contiguous. Depending on the needs of the library. The incumbent will manage the library's electronic resource lifecycle and keep current on emerging trends in e-resources management and scholarly communications. They will participate with other librarians in virtual and face-to-face reference, instruction, and collection development. As a full-time tenure-track faculty member, the librarian will be expected to serve on library and campus governance committees as part of meeting the requirements for obtaining continuing appointment (tenure).

EXAMPLES OF DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Manages the full lifecycle of electronic resources including databases, e-books, e-journals, and the library website using Ex Libris Alma, OCLC, and other systems.
  • Develops workflows, best practices, and documentation to manage electronic resources.
  • Troubleshoots technical issues with electronic resources and coordinates the resolution of problems with vendors and the college's Information Technology Services.
  • Promotes electronic resources and coordinates opportunities for librarians, students, faculty, and staff to learn about existing and new resources.
  • Promotes Open Educational Resources and scholarly communications.
  • Shares up to 25% of instructional requests with the Coordinator of Reference & Instruction.
  • Serves as a subject liaison, including outreach, reference, instruction, and collection development.
  • Organizes or leads workshops, crafts LibGuides, and conducts other forms of outreach.
  • Provides Reference Desk and chat reference coverage during assigned hours. Shares on-call reference with reference coordinator as scheduled.
  • Participates in occasional evening and weekend duties.

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications

  • A Master's degree in Librarianship/Information Science or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program.
  • Familiarity with electronic resources management systems and related library systems.
  • Experience teaching information literacy sessions.
  • Excellent communication and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively with colleagues.
  • Ability to meet the requirements for tenure.
  • Commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion, and the ability to collaborate efficiently and effectively on shared projects in our multicultural library and university community.

Preferred Qualifications

In addition to the aforementioned minimum qualifications, it is preferred the candidate also have: 

  • Demonstrated ability to establish and to coordinate complicated workflows
  • Experience working in an academic or research library.
  • Experience with html and css, and other web standards.
  • Familiarity with scholarly communications and open research and learning.

Additional Information:

  • The salary for this position is $55,000. 
  • This is a full-time, term, 11-month tenure-track position.
