Responsibilities

The Assistant Director of The Smith Institute for Research, Career Development, and Postgraduate Readiness (SIRCDPgR) is a vital role in the implementation of ongoing strategic and student success-related initiatives. Under the leadership of the Director of The Smith Institute for Research, the Assistant Director will play a significant role in creating an environment that further engages students and integrates career development and postgraduate readiness into the student experience. The Assistant Director is part of a cross-functional team who works with students to assist them in creating an academic and career plan that encourages research, experiential learning, and career competencies to prepare students for post-graduate life at the University. Assistant Director will have the opportunity to provide insight into the re-design and instruct a career exploration course.

Qualifications

A bachelor’s degree required, in Business, Human Resources, Marketing, Career Counseling, Student Development, Higher Education, or an appropriately related field, and at least two years of experience in student services, employee relations, or general administration in student services or other relevant field and one to two years of professional experience and familiarity with corporate and non-profit organizations. A master’s degree is helpful.

  • Proficient computer skills (Microsoft Office, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to effectively navigate job search web tools and social media platforms such as Handshake, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, etc.
  • Extensive knowledge of student development and career development
  • Experience building partnerships with businesses, agencies, and non-profits
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills especially those in the areas of collaboration, conflict resolution, problem-solving and decision making
  • Strong organization and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities and constituents
  • An inclusive student success-centered philosophy of providing services and resources
  • Ability to work well without close supervision.
