Be yourself and start your career here. Help us build a better Brockport! Job Summary: SUNY Brockport is currently accepting applications for a Financial Aid Specialist- HESC). This position is responsible for the accurate and timely certification of all NYS Higher Education Services Corporation (HESC) award programs, including but not limited to,
Tuition Assistance Program (TAP), Part-Time TAP, STEM (Science, Technology, Education and Mathematics), Veteran's Tuition Awards (VTA), Masters-In-Education Teaching Incentive, World Trade Center scholarships, and (HESC) merit-based scholarships.
The incumbent will be responsible for identifying, researching, and resolving student eligibility issues, including the execution of appropriate award adjustments, award revocation, and will act as the College's liaison with HESC. The incumbent will be the College's official "Certifying Officer" and will be responsible for maintaining HESC system access for appropriate campus employees. The incumbent will monitor Excelsior Scholarship eligibility and communicate with all recipients regarding their eligibility status quarterly. Minimum Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree from a college or university accredited by a US Department of Education or an internationally recognized accrediting organization.
  • One year professional experience in higher education student service (Financial Aid, Registrar, Student Accounts, Admissions or Academic Advisement) office or three years experience in other professional work setting with specific experience and responsibilities for certifying/verifying regulatory documents.
  • Experience in a customer service environment.
  • Strong mathematical and analysis skills.
  • Demonstrated computing proficiency to include Microsoft Office products such as Excel and Word.
  • Ability to work effectively with students, public, college community and external constituencies, with an appreciation for cultural and group differences.
    Preferred Qualifications:
  • Professional experience with NYS HESC award program awarding and/or certification
  • Experience with the functions of a Registrar's Office or other college student services office.
  • Experience with college Student Information systems (Banner, Degree Works etc.).
  • Knowledge of statewide higher education tuition assistance regulations and criteria certification (Higher Education Service Corp. or related).
  • Must enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, display an aptitude for technology, think analytically and be adaptable to change
    Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 9 am - 5 pm Salary and Benefits: Minimum Salary is $50,148. May be benefits eligible; more information at Careers@Brockport. This position is not eligible for visa sponsorship.
