Assistant/Associate Professor

Primary Purpose of Position:
The NCCU Department of Art and Design is seeking applicants interested in joining our talented and collegial faculty in a full-time, tenure-track position, at the level of Assistant or Associate Professor. The key subject area for the faculty member is Architecture, its related principles, methodologies, history, and the new and emerging digital tools used in the discipline. This individual will serve as an academic advisor to Art and Design majors, and as co-faculty advisor to the Art and Design Club. The new faculty member will be a proponent for the newly approved Pre-Architecture Concentration in the Department of Art and Design. We are seeking a design educator who has a proven track record of serious, innovative architectural work to support our integrated studio model and further the Department's emerging architectural tradition. Expertise in the history, theory, and practice of architectural design and representation is especially welcome.

Minimum Education/Experience:
A post-professional degree in the applicant’s area of expertise. Post-professional degree requirements may be satisfied by one of the following:Master of Architecture, Doctor of Design in architecture or related field, or Ph.D. in architecture or a related field.

At least five years working in the architecture field. Additional, related collegiate teaching experience preferred.

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Architectural drawing, visualization, and presentation skills and the ability to teach these.- Creativity and imagination.- Ability to teach in the new Pre-Architecture concentration and assist in delivery of the curriculum.- Knowledge and skills in teaching Architectural elements, principles, methods, techniques, philosophies, history, concepts, styles, etc.- Expertise with PC and/or Mac computers; and both 3D and 2D software most-commonly used in the Architecture industry.- Expertise and ability to effectively share knowledge of current industry-standard electronic equipment and peripherals, including scanners, standard and large-format printers, 3D printers, and other current and emerging digital devices.- Experience with applying to graduate school, job placement, and internships, etc.- Effective oral and written communication skills.- Patience and attention to detail.- Ability to meet deadlines and work as part of a team.

Special Instructions to Applicants:
A portfolio of work is required with application. Each portfolio must include:
  • 20 samples of the candidate’s creative work and
  • 20 samples of work done by the candidate’s students
