Department Summary

The Knight Campus for Accelerating Scientific Impact is a billion-dollar initiative designed to fast-track scientific discoveries and the process of turning those discoveries into innovations that improve the quality of life for people in Oregon, the nation and beyond. The Knight Campus will reshape the higher education landscape in Oregon by training the next generations of scientists, forging tighter ties with industry and entrepreneurs and creating new educational opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students.

The Knight Campus Graduate Internship Program (KCGIP) at the Knight Campus trains students in real-world knowledge and skills necessary to be successful in the industrial research laboratory - and at the interview table. We believe an advanced degree should help students land a job and prepare them for a successful career. The program currently has multiple degree programs including Bioinformatics, PV & Semiconductor Devise Processing, Optical Materials & Devices, Polymer Science, and Molecular Sensors. The program is also growing and creating new degree tracks to align with industry needs in areas such as Data Science. The KCGIP currently enrolls over 130 graduate students annually, and is expected to have significant enrollment growth as new degree tracks are launched over the next 2-5 years.

Position Summary

The Senior Director, KCGIP oversees the internship programs/tracks including supervision of the program directors, new course development and strategy, curriculum oversight, setting and reviewing program budgets, strategic reviews on industry partnerships, student recruitment targets, identifying teaching lab equipment needs, and internal stakeholder engagement. The Senior Director will be responsible for the execution of internship programs/tracks and will ensure that curriculum meets industry needs and degree requirements. The Senior Director will also partner with the Assistant Vice President on new business development and internal/external relationship management. Substantial scientific expertise in a discipline relevant to the internship programs/tracks is required.

Minimum Requirements

  • An advanced degree (MS or PhD) in a relevant scientific discipline such as Biology, Bioengineering, Chemistry/Biochemistry, Computer and Information Science, Data Science, Physics, etc.
  • Three years of academic or research program leadership including personnel management in an institution of higher education.
  • One year of external facing relationship management

    Preferred Qualifications

  • External/industry experience in a scientific or research capacity outside of a higher education institution.
  • Graduate level teaching and curriculum development experience.
  • Professional development training experience.
  • Experience providing financial oversight and budget planning.
