JOB SUMMARY
California State University, San Bernardino Department of Theatre Arts seeks an accomplished theatre artist/director with a primary focus in Educational Theatre for a full time, tenure track position beginning August 2023. We seek a Theatre Generalist with strong Performance based skills in addition to an extensive background in Drama education, TYA, and applied drama. We particularly seek a candidate to further develop Youth theatre and collaborate with CSUSB's Education Department on California's newly reinstated Single Subject Credential in Theatre.
TYPICAL ACTIVITIES
Successful applicant will demonstrate expertise in developing performance and production skills. For example: TYA, contemporary and classic acting styles, movement, voice, theatre-for-social-justice, devised theatre. Strong resume in directing will be desirable. All faculty teach general education courses such as Introduction to Theatre, Acting for All Majors, Dramatic Literature, and Oral interpretation.
Qualified candidates must demonstrate a commitment to excellence in teaching and mentoring a diverse student population and to working effectively with faculty, staff and students across a wide range of disciplines.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A terminal degree (MFA or PhD) in Drama, Theatre or Theatre for the Young Audiences completed no later than August 2023.
  • Present Evidence of teaching excellence.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
  • A minimum of three years of experience teaching in higher education,
  • Administrative experience in an academic or arts organization,
  • A track record of creative work and/or publishing in conventional and non-traditional forums, and
  • Experience in mentoring students for careers in performing arts fields including evidence of scholarly activity, publication, and innovation is valued.
  • Evidence of exemplary graduate-level teaching and leadership experience at program level is preferred and should be noted in application.

ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT
The Department of Theatre Arts is composed of artist educators with diverse backgrounds and experiences. We are dedicated to continuing to diversify our faculty. The commitment to diversity extends to the production program. Our seasons of past productions have been selected to represent a variety of plays. Works presented include the classics (Shakespeare, Brecht, Moliere, Miller etc.), Outside the European Canon (Calderon De La Barca, Carlyle Brown, Kirsten Greenidge etc.), Plays for Young Audiences (A Wrinkle in Time, Jackie Robinson Story and others) Puppet works, Touring Shows, New plays, Student plays and Devised works. The Department of Theatre Arts grants an undergraduate BA in theatre. The degree allows students to develop expertise within an area (Musical Theatre, Theatre Education, Technical Theatre, and Performance). Our students work as Professional Artists, Educators (at all levels) and in a variety of other careers. Construction has begun for a new Performing Arts facility that will add a 500-seat theatre and rehearsal/studio spaces. The current faculty includes a strong mix of expertise to support the degree. The department has worked over twenty years with the California Arts Project and the California Subject Matter Projects developing State and National Standards and Frameworks in Theatre and Dance. Recently California approved the teaching credential in theatre. This opportunity to develop and support skilled teachers to our region, combined with recent retirements, has provided the opportunity to reinforce and extend our program in education.     Assistant Professor (Range 3) - $5,405 - $11,994

    Associate Professor (Range 4) - $6,190 - $13,172

    Professor (Range 5) - $7,794 - $13,797
